It is with heavy hearts that we share the passing of Anna Steele Matt, of Corpus Christi Texas, a beloved mother, spouse, daughter, sister, cousin, and friend, who passed away in Christ on July 2, 2026. Born on July 23, 1948 in Kingsville, TX. She graduated from Tomball High School. She received her Bachelor's degree from Our Lady of the Lake University and her Masters degree from Sam Houston State University. She was a member of the Zeta Tau Alpha Sorority. She was married to Christopher E. Matt on May 15, 1976. Anna was a beloved teacher and Elementary School Counselor who served the children and families of San Antonio area schools, Incarnate Word Academy, and CCISD for 35 years. She loved spending time birdwatching, especially admiring hummingbirds and butterflies. Blessed with a major sweet tooth, she never turned down a slice of cherry pie or a chocolate brownie. In her quiet moments, she enjoyed reading her bible, reading fiction, watching Hallmark movies and classic westerns, and had a special appreciation for cowboy boots and Elvis that reflected her fun-loving spirit. Above all, Anna cherished being a mother. Her greatest joy and proudest accomplishment was raising her family.

She is survived by her husband of 50 years, Christopher E. Matt, her children Catherine Matt, Christina Matt, and Jonathan Matt, her brother John E. Buehrig, and her sisters Patricia Mankin and Kathleen Blankenburg, her aunt Mary Lou Simmons and cousins Charles Simmons, Craig Simmons, Teresa Jones, Kelly Berry and Mark David Steele. She was preceded in death by her father, John Elmo Buehrig and her mother, Anne Marie Steele Buehrig, her Maternal Grandmother Ida Mae Steele, Maternal Grandfather Fred G. Steele, Paternal Grandmother Frieda Buehrig, Paternal Grandfather William F. Buehrig and loving Aunts, Uncles, and Cousins.

A Memorial Service will be held in the Chapel at First Baptist Church Corpus Christi on July 10, 2026 at 11 am with a reception to follow in Hereford Parlor located inside the church.
