Obituary

Zachary "Zach" Joseph Mocko passed away on April 14, 2024 at the age of 29 in Corpus Christi, Texas and was born on March 25, 1995 in Battle Creek, Michigan.

Zach was an artist in the purest form of the word. He had a love for poetry and art and all things abstract in nature. He used his poetry to bring to life his thoughts and visions. He was beyond intelligent and had this captivating wisdom of greatness that always drew you in. As brother Kerfur would put it, "In a world of push-overs, Zach stood for the truth!" His favorite motto was "I don't have to be right, but I refuse to be wrong!" With his outspoken energy and ability to strongly lead a debate, we are certain that his charming smile and effortless beauty carried him through any challenge.

Zach found true peace in nature and wildlife. He enjoyed the freedom of skateboarding; another hobby he had perfected. His family loved him and knew him as "Gaky" – sister MariJane coined the name when she was a baby as she couldn't pronounce Zachary; "Brudder" – as Manfa would have it; or simply "Bones" – due his sleek figure. When we speak these names, we will remember him with great love. His spirit lives within each of those who were blessed to truly know him and with those who chose to share life with him. Although Zach was diagnosed with schizophrenia at a very young age, he never allowed it to keep him from living and enjoying the beauty around him. Many of the pains he endured were battles none of us could have known, but he reminds us to love unconditionally.

He is survived by his parents Tommy and Lezlie Burns of Downsville, LA; daughter Sydney Cardona and her mother Kimberly Cardona of Alice, TX; three siblings: Krystopher "Kerfur" Lee Reason (Marissa) of Alice, TX, Samantha "Manfa" Ann Denton (Ryan) of Premont, TX, and MariJane Burns of Downsville, LA; nieces and nephews, Kirsten Rayne, Remington Macey, Jewell Leeann, James Ryan, Spencer Elliot, Harper Jade; the love of his life, Elisa Garcia; Godfather, John Michael Gonzalez of San Diego, Texas; along with a host of extended members of the family and friends whom he loved.

Zach's family would like to give a special thanks to Owen Smith, a dear friend for the guidance and true friendship he shared with him. To all who have shared his story and sent beautiful sentiments of your love, we thank each of you sincerely.
