William Lloyd
Waterman
October 12, 1941 – May 1, 2026
In Loving Memory Of
William L. (Bill) Waterman passed away on May 1, 2026, following an extended illness. The eldest of four children, Bill was born to Lloyd and LaVon Waterman on October 12, 1941, in Springfield, Minnesota. After graduating from Sanborn High School, he attended the University of Minnesota. Upon graduation, Bill joined the United States Navy, where he served for more than two decades. During his naval career, he flew in Vietnam, served at the Pentagon, and worked as a financial officer in Pensacola, Florida, and Corpus Christi, Texas. While in the Navy, Bill earned a master’s degree in financial management. He retired in 1989 with the rank of Commander.
Bill’s second career was as a financial officer with Christus Spohn Health System and Driscoll Children’s Hospital. The financial expertise he developed during his Navy years served him well in this new role. Even after retiring fully, Bill continued to provide guidance and counsel to colleagues, former co‑workers, and friends.
In 1963, Bill married Mavis Meyer, and together they recently celebrated their sixty‑third wedding anniversary. Their marriage, founded on love, respect and devotion, served as a model for their children, family, and friends.
A man of strong convictions and deep faith, Bill was active in his church and community. He served in numerous ministries at Mt. Olive Lutheran Church, including as Elder and President of the Congregation. While in the Navy, he also served as Naval Liaison to the United Way.
An avid hobbyist, Bill enjoyed building birdhouses with his granddaughter, Kathryn, and creating an extensive model train system featuring meaningful references to people and places in his life. A visit to the Waterman garage to see the train setup was always a highlight for guests.
Bill also cherished “condo weekends” with family and friends on the Island, where good times, his gourmet cooking, and his famous Bloody Marys were enjoyed by all.
Bill is survived by his beloved wife, Mavis; his daughter, Stephanie; his son, Jon (Holly); four grandchildren, Kathryn (Byrne) Norman, Clare Waterman, Luke Waterman, and Jake Waterman; and one great‑granddaughter, Charlotte Norman. He is also survived by his sister, Jean (Leon) Hellickson; many loving nieces and nephews, extended family, and dear friends. Bill was considered a second father to many of his children’s friends, who often sought his guidance. He was preceded in death by his parents, Lloyd and LaVon Waterman; his in‑laws, Alton and Elva Meyer; and his brothers, Steve and Jon Waterman.
Family and friends are invited to visitation on Wednesday, May 6, from 5:00 to 8:00 p.m. at Mt. Olive Lutheran Church, 5101 Saratoga Blvd., Corpus Christi, Texas. The funeral service will be held on Thursday, May 7, at 11:00 a.m. at Mt. Olive, with a luncheon to follow.
Floral remembrances may be delivered to Mt. Olive Lutheran Church. In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations in Bill’s memory to Camp Lone Star, 2016 Camp Lone Star Road, La Grange, Texas 78945.
