Viola Yolanda "Nanny" Medina, age 69, passed away January 2, 2015 surrounded by family and numerous friends. She was born September 10, 1945 to Victor and Maria Zamora in Corpus Christi, Texas.
Her spirit will be carried on by her husband of 50 years, Rodrigo Medina and their two children, Gina Jaimes and Roderick (Selina) Medina. Also celebrating her memory are six grandchildren Jimmy Jaimes, Elizabeth Bryson, Jacob Bryson, Ishmael Medina, Mia Medina, Raul Medina, and one great grandchild, Brendan Leal. She is preceded in death by one granddaughter, Tiffany Jaimes.
Viola is survived by many family members including a brother Francisco (Elida) Lopez of Premont, many in-laws, nieces, nephews friends and family too numerous to list but surely not forgotten.
Viola's larger legacy grows out of the Daycare she ran for 20 years. It was during this time she became known as "Nanny". Many children were raised and loved within the walls of her business and upon retirement Nanny continued to grow her extended family by making new friends in person and on-line. As a self-taught computer geek she was able to reach out to others on Facebook and also through her blogs, "Nanny's Home" and "Take a Sentimental Journey
"; many that "knew" her without actually "knowing" her mourn her passing.
Viola was a dedicated Military Wife, Mother, Friend, Avid Gardner, Decorator Extraordinaire and Chef, but don't get me started on that cooking! She was loved by all and will be missed by many. Family will receive friends at Guardian Funeral Home beginning at 10:00 a.m. on Friday, January 9, 2015 with services held at 11:00 a.m. Interment will follow at the Coastal Bend State Veterans Cemetery at 1:00 p.m.
