IN LOVING MEMORY OF
Victor Trevino,
Sr.
January 20, 1948 – September 9, 2021
Victor Trevino Sr., better known as "El Caballo" to all of his family and friends, was born in Corpus Christi, Texas to Jose and Mercedes Trevino on January 20, 1948 and passed away peacefully at his home, surrounded by family, on September 9, 2021.
He was a proud and longtime resident of the Molina neighborhood and graduated from West Oso High School in 1966. After graduation, Caballo enlisted into the US Navy and his most memorable and last assignment was aboard the USS Blue DD 744. While in the military, Caballo gained many lifelong friends who traveled from around the US to visit with him during his final days. After his enlistment, Caballo attended Del Mar College to learn welding where he met the love of his life, Margarita Reyes. Caballo worked for Baker Marine for many years before transitioning to a Facilities Welder at CCAD for 31 years before retirement.
While at CCAD, Caballo's job allowed him to work around the base in many areas where he'd met friends, more like family, who loved his smile and hugs. Caballo would light up a room and make anyone feel welcomed. Caballo left behind a legacy in which he always made the most of each passing day. During his time with us, Caballo was an active member in many various organizations. As a member and largest flag bearer for The Corpus Christi Veterans Band, Caballo proudly carried the National Colors during George Bush Sr.'s Inauguration Parade. Caballo also was a member of Tejano Live, umpired softball games for various leagues, was an honorary member of the Miller Alumni Organization, participated in golf and bowling leagues, was a West Oso ISD School Board member for 9 years and proud lifelong supporter of their athletic programs.
Caballo had many hobbies that included dancing, hunting, fishing, photography, golfing, and most of all, traveling with his beautiful wife, Margarita. As many of you know, our parents danced their hearts away every chance they had. When they were dancing, the world stopped and watched my mother float across the dance floor as my dad lead. Caballo had an array of friends that covered coast to coast and never in his life met a stranger. He loved his family and friends extensively and always hosted his annual Easter BBQ at his beloved Molina Veteran's Park where everyone was always welcome.
Caballo was a founding member of the Vietnam Memorial and helped construct the monument as a tribute to his childhood friends who paid the ultimate price for freedom. Caballo organized and hosted the annual Memorial Day Service for the families of the fallen to ensure none of his childhood friends are forgotten.
Victor married Margarita in March of 1972 and the couple recently celebrated their 49th wedding anniversary. Together, they welcomed four children; Priscilla (Danney) Boren, Leticia (Jaron) James, Victor (Carey) Trevino Jr., and Jose (Tiffany) Trevino. He is preceded in death by his mother Mercedes Trevino, father Jose Trevino, and his grandson Norman Boren.
Victor is survived by his 17 cherished grandchildren, a great grandson, and his beloved 4-legged companion, Bosco. Victor had one sister, Loucy Trevino and her son Samuel, numerous aunts, cousins, friends, and extended family. We'd also like to recognize his caregivers Janessa Cano and Nicole Pena, RN who stayed by his side during his final days.
His doctors, Dr. Ester Pollard from Christus Spohn - Shoreline, who loved our dad and Dr. Behyar Zoghi from Methodist Hospital in San Antonio, who saved his life 3 years ago after his first bout with Leukemia.
His memory will continue to live on through the memories he left in everyone's hearts and minds. There will never be another Victor, ever. For those who were fortunate enough to know Caballo, our dad, know the great loss we all have experienced.
On behalf of the Trevino Family, we would like to invite all of Victor's family and friends to bid farewell to a great man. Funeral Services will be held at Guardian Funeral Home on Saturday, September 18th with visitation beginning at 9:00 A.M. and a Rosary at 11:00 A.M. Burial with distinguished Military Honors will follow on Wednesday, September 22nd and will be held at the Coastal Bend State Veterans Cemetery at 11:00 A.M
