Ventura Alonzo Tovar

Ventura Alonzo (Toby) Tovar passed away at his home on February 13, 2013 to go to a more peaceful place. He was born in Laredo, Texas on October 5th, 1938 to Ventura Tovar Jr. and Luisa Tovar. Ventura served in the U.S. Naval Service. After leaving the service he worked with funeral services and then joined the Corpus Christi Fire Department where he served for 5 years. He left the Fire Service to join the Corpus Christi Police Department on October 1st, 1964 and retired January 7th, 1996. Ventura was married to Rosa Contreras Tovar and had five children. His enjoyment in life was hunting, fishing and Bar-B-Qing with friends and family. Some of his most enjoyable moments in life were his hunting trips to Colorado with family and friends.
Ventura was preceded in death by his parents.
Ventura is survived by Rosa and their children Ventura Alonzo Tovar Jr. (Candy), Victor A. Tovar, Vincent A. Tovar, Vivian A. Fernandez (Ronnie) and Velma A. Tovar , seven grandchildren and three great grandchildren. Ventura is also survived by his siblings, Hector Tovar (Emily), Lydia Tovar Hicks (Rick), Esveidi Zamorano (Rolando), Raul Tovar (Margie) and Jesse D. Tovar.
Visitation will be on Saturday, February 16, 2013 at Guardian Funeral Home at 5922 Crosstown Access Road. Honorary pall bearers are Roy, Hector, Jesse, Al, Victor and Vincent, brothers and sons. The times will be 2pm to 4pm for family and the family wishes to invite his friends to visit from 4pm to 7pm.
A Prayer Service will be held at 5pm.
