Valorie J.
Surface
September 21, 1938 – April 4, 2026
Valorie Jean Surface, born in Corpus Christi, Texas, in 1938, entered into the presence of the Lord Jesus Christ on April 4, 2026, in her Corpus Christi home, surrounded by the love that defined her life. She now rests in the presence of her Lord Jesus Christ, leaving behind a legacy of faith, devotion, and grace.
For 69 wonderful years, she shared her life with her beloved husband, Arlin Surface, whose steadfast love was the foundation of their enduring marriage. Together, they built a life centered on faith and family.
Valorie dedicated her career as a research librarian, reflecting her deep love of knowledge and quiet service to others. Music was one of her greatest passions, having contributed to weekly worship for the entirety of her life in her church choir and for over forty years she sang with the Sweet Adelines, sharing her gift and bringing joy to many through song.
A woman of deep and abiding faith, Valorie loved her Lord Jesus Christ with all her heart. That love radiated into every part of her life especially in her devotion to her husband and family. Often preferring to be outside in all types of weather, she found beauty in simple things: painting, tending to her flowers, and creating a home filled with warmth and care.
She is lovingly survived by Arlin, their three children—Mark Surface (wife Sue), Kert Surface (wife Mary), and Arlynn Surface—as well as her treasured grandchildren: Ryan Taylor, Katie Taylor, Trevor Surface, Haley Drago (husband Joe), and Meg Surface. Her joy continues through her great-grandson, Jackson Drago.
She is preceded in death by her parents, M.R. “Dick” Turner and Dorothy Turner, two brothers (Dick Turner and Bobby Turner), and one sister (Carole Turner).
Her life was a song of gratitude, her legacy a garden of love. Now as she continues her worship of the Lord into eternity, Valorie’s memory blooms in every heart she touched, her spirit now singing among the angels glorifying God and enjoying Him forever.
A Celebration of Life will be held at Parkway Presbyterian Church, Corpus Christi, Tx. Monday April 20, 2026 at 10:00 am. In lieu of flowers, please consider a donation to Parkway Presbyterian Church or The Sweet Adelines.
