Toni Brents Prudhomme Tarpley, age 77 of Corpus Christi, TX passed away Tuesday, July 11, 2023 at home with her daughters by her side after a long battle with Alzheimer's Disease.
Toni was born April 21, 1946 in San Antonio, Texas, to Wilmoth (Sister) Brents Harden. She married her high school sweetheart, Leonard Weldon Tarpley, on August 9th 1962 in Crane, Texas.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Leonard, her parents, Wilmoth (Sister) Brents Harden of Crane, Texas and her father Ralph Prudhomme of Port Barre, Louisiana.
Raised by a single mom, Toni started working when she was 11 years old at the drive-in theater in Crane, TX and she played volleyball for Crane High School. At 16 she married Leonard and left Crane for Germany where Leonard was stationed in the Army. After returning to Crane, Toni and Leonard moved to Odessa, TX where Toni became an avid bowler. They later moved to Corpus Christi, TX in1978 where she continued to bowl and also started a small antique reselling business. In November of 1987 the anniversary of her mother's death a friend gave Toni a copy of The Prudhomme Family Cookbook, through this cookbook Toni found her birth father, Ralph Prudhomme, whom she had never met. She, Leonard and their girls traveled to Louisiana to meet him and the rest of her Prudhomme family. In 1993 Toni joined Leonard in Cilegon, Indonesia for 4 years. She became certified in ESL prior to moving and while there she taught English as a second language to children and business men and women, she enjoyed teaching them and was proud to be able to do so. Toni also was the president of Wanita Asing Cilegon's International Women's Group. The group educated the young women of Cilegon Indonesia on birth control and provided birth control to them. She also started a library in Cilegon while they were living there. When they returned to the states, Toni worked at Dillard's and Chico's in Corpus Christi, TX.
Toni loved traveling throughout the United States and the World, she would be the first one packed and ready to go. She was an avid reader, gardener, hunter and loved going to Las Vegas with Leonard and their girls. She enjoyed playing games with her family and their annual Easter egg hunt, she was a fierce competitor and a sore loser. She also loved spending time in her yard and she loved, loved, loved celebrating her birthday.
Survivors include her three daughters, Brigitte Tarpley and El Dona Cheree' Tarpley-Hager, of Corpus Christi, Toni Danielle Tarpley-Arredondo, of San Antonio; three grandchildren, James Weldon Hager of Everett, Washington and Mia Danielle Arredondo and Jake Ryan Arredondo of San Antonio, half-sisters, Brenda Prudhomme-Collette of Port Barre Louisiana, Rebecca Lanclos of Opelousas Louisiana, half-brother Russell Prudhomme (Linda) of Lafayette Louisiana.
There will be a graveside service at the Coastal Bend State Veterans Cemetery, located at 9974 I-37, Corpus Christi, TX 78410, Friday July 21 2023 at 10:00am. There will also be graveside service at Crane Memorial Cemetery, located at 201 W. 6th St. Crane, TX 79731, Thursday July 27, 2023 at 10am.
