Obituary

Theresa "Terri" Martinez Alaniz, a devoted mother, grandmother, sister, cousin, aunt and friend to many, passed away on November 6, 2024 at the age of 86.  She leaves behind a legacy of musical excellence, educational advocacy, and a profound love for her family and friends that will continue to resonate for generations.

A lifelong resident of Corpus Christi, Terri was surrounded by music from an early age, growing up in a family filled with talented musicians. Her aunts and uncles, all accomplished in their own right, provided the backdrop for her own blossoming talent. As a young girl, Terri became a gifted soloist at Roy Miller High School and her talent only flourished during her college years at Del Mar and Texas A&I where she received numerous awards, including Outstanding Woman of Music, the first non-music major to receive this honor. Her vocal performances took her far beyond the classroom—most notably on a tour to France and Germany, where she sang for U.S. troops stationed overseas, spreading joy and lifting spirits with her extraordinary voice.

While music was a central part of her life, Terri also found her calling in education. She spent decades with Corpus Christi Independent School District where she taught and mentored countless students and educators. She was known for her unshakable dedication and her unwavering belief in the potential of every individual. Whether guiding students, young teachers or established educators, Terri's influence reached far beyond the classroom and her legacy in the world of education is immeasurable.

Her devotion to her work, however, never overshadowed her love for her family. Above all, Terri was a proud grandmother to five who lit up her life. She often said they were her greatest joy, and her love for them was boundless. Whether attending school events, cheering them on during sports, or simply sharing quiet moments, her grandchildren were the heart of her world. They will never forget her signature greeting when answering the phone "Hello, my darling!"

Terri is now reunited in heaven with her parents, Lisandro H. Martinez and Rosa Galvan Martinez.  She is survived by her children Michael Alaniz and Rosalee Palacios, her son-in-law Abel Palacios, her grandchildren Alex Alaniz, Alyssa Palacios, Aleah Palacios, Adam Palacios and Abel Palacios, her brothers Lee Martinez Jr. (Josie) and Freddie Martinez Sr. (JoAnn), as well as numerous family members and friends. She will be profoundly missed.

Her life was defined by a deep passion for music and public education, and an endless devotion to her family. She will be remembered not just for her accomplishments, but for her strength and love she shared with everyone fortunate enough to know her.

A public visitation will be held at 10:00 a.m. on Saturday, November 16, 2024 , at Guardian Funeral Home in Corpus Christi, with a Chapel Service to be celebrated at 11:00 a.m. officiated by Deacon Fino Palacios.
