IN LOVING MEMORY OF
Sylvia G.
Cantu
October 6, 1960 – December 5, 2023
Sylvia G. Cantu was called home on December 5, 2023 at the age of 63.
She was born in Corpus Christi, Texas on October 6, 1960 to her parents Rodolfo Garcia and Virginia Guajardo Garcia. Sylvia was a proud graduate of West Oso High School, Class of 1979. She received her formal education from American Intercontinental University, obtaining both a Bachelor's degree in Accounting and Finance, along with a Bachelor's degree in Business Administration; graduating with the distinguished title of Summa Cum Laude. Armed with this blessing of knowledge, she went on to excel in her career which eventually awarded her the freedom to be self employed.
A beloved wife, mother, grandmother, daughter, sister, aunt and friend to many is now at rest.
Sylvia was truly the matriarch of our family, always keeping the bonds of love alive through her generosity. Most would describe her as dedicated, humble and giving. Even in the midst of adversity, through many health battles, she never lost hope; her beautiful spirit courageously endured life's challenges with a smile.
She enjoyed the simple things in life, like gardening or tending to her flower beds or adoring her four pet birds; finding beauty in all of God's creation. Sylvia especially enjoyed spending time with her children and grandchildren, and having all of her family together, the moments brought great joy to her heart. Creating priceless memories filled with singing, dancing and pure happiness. We must mention her passion for cooking; the family always longed for her tamales, menudo and her daily homemade tortillas! Her spirit of love is embedded in the hearts of those who were blessed to meet her. This beautiful legacy of strength will live on for generations to come, until we meet again.
Sylvia is joined now in heaven by her parents Virginia and Rodolfo Garcia.
She is survived by her husband James Cantu; children: Veronica (James) McJunkins, and Alonzo (Stacy) Hernandez, Jr.; four grandchildren: James, Kinna, and Christopher McJunkins and Lorenzo G. Hernandez; father of her children Alonzo Hernandez, Sr.; five siblings: Herman, Rodolfo, Jr., Susie, Ruben, and Nina; along with numerous aunts, uncles, nieces, nephews and cousins whom she loved dearly. Although too many to name, each of you know of the special part you played in Sylvia's life and we thank you sincerely for the beautiful love and friendship you graciously provided.
