Susie Lydia Hewitt Mena, 73, was called home to be with Our Lord on Sunday afternoon, September 27, 2015.
Susie was born on January 2, 1942 in Corpus Christi, Texas to David Hewitt Sr. and Ofelia Mondragon Hewitt. She was the fourth of twelve children. Susie attended Roy Miller High School until the untimely death of her mother. It was then Susie made the courageous and unselfish decision to leave school and assist her father in raising the remaining 8 younger siblings.
On March 18th, 1966 she married the love of her life, Raul A. Mena. They were married 49 wonderful years. Their marriage was strong in faith, love, devotion and passion. Susie loved to go dancing, traveling, listening to Doo-Woop music, visiting family, watching her grandsons play baseball and football, and going camping at Inks Lake State Park. She also loved to watch her Miller Bucs. Raul and Susie were blessed with three loving daughters Ofelia, Sylvia and Carrie. She was a homemaker for many years. Susie and Raul owned La Cocinita Mexican Restaurant for ten years. She worked at Gonzalez & Associates as the Office Manager until retirement. She was an active member at Our Lady of Guadalupe Catholic Church serving in the David Hewitt's Men & Women's Club and ushering at the 8:00 a.m. mass on Sunday's.
Susie was a devoted catholic, wife, mother, mother-in-law, grandmother, great-grandmother, daughter, sister, aunt, and cousin. She loved being with her daughters and grandchildren. Always giving and never asking for anything in return. Her heart over flowed with love for her family. Family was very important to Susie and she stressed that to her daughters and grandchildren.
Susie is preceded in death by her parents, David and Ofelia Hewitt, her mother-in-law, Maria De Jesus Canales, her niece Astrid Hewitt, and sister-in-law Rosabel Hewitt.
Susie is survived by her loving and devoted husband Raul; her daughters Ofelia Mena of Corpus Christi, Texas, Sylvia (Daniel) Ramirez of Corpus Christi, Texas, Carrie (Henry) Perez of Cypress, Texas; grandchildren: Miranda (Matthew) Novosad, Henry Perez III, Daniel Ramirez, Melanie Rodriguez, Kathleen Ramirez, Malorie Rodriguez, and Keagan Alec Perez; great-grandchild: Alayla Novosad; siblings: David Hewitt Jr., Mary Hewitt, Adela (Richard) Rodriguez, Raymond (Frances) Hewitt, Frank (Iris) Hewitt, Jerry (Marcy) Hewitt, Jimmy (Freida) Hewitt, Roland (Jane) Hewitt, Stella (Manuel) Garza, Roseanne (Marcelo) Rodriguez, Martha (Alfredo) Ruiz, numerous in-laws, nieces, nephews and cousins.
Visitation for Susie will be held at Guardian Funeral Home & Crematory from 2:00 p.m. to 7:00 p.m. on Sunday, October 4, 2015 with a Rosary to be recited at 7:00 p.m. that same evening. The Funeral Mass will be celebrated at 10:00 a.m. on Monday, October 5, 2015 at Our Lady of Guadalupe Catholic Church. Susie will have her final resting at 11:00 a.m. on Tuesday, October 6, 2015 at Holy Cross Cemetery.

Honorary pallbearer will be her grandson Keagan Alec Perez.
The family would like to express their heartfelt gratitude and appreciation to her physicians, Dr. Charles Breeling, Dr. Charles Schechter, Dr. Shah Islam, and Dr. Jacqueline Cone; the staff at Doctor's Regional Hospital and the loving staff at Vista Del Mar.
