Steve Gordon Carter, age 61, loving son, brother, husband, dad, and grandpa. He passed away on December 26, 2016. Steve was born on September 28, 1955 to Earl and Juanita R. Carter in Corpus Christi, Texas. He is survived by his loving wife, Sherry Carter, his sons, Samuel (Annette) Carter and Adam Carter, his daughter, Sarah Carter, his parents, Earl and Juanita R. Carter, his uncle, Leroy Darrow, his brothers, Leslie (Sandy) Carter and Robert Carter, his sisters, Juanita E. Carter and Wilma (Daniel) Cantu, his grandson, Scott Carter, and numerous nieces and nephews.
Born and raised in Corpus Christi, Steve graduated from Mary Carroll High School in 1974. Steve earned an Associate Degree in Nursing Assistance from Del Mar College. Steve then continued on to Angelo State University, where he received a Bachelor of Science in Chemistry in 1978 and completed his ROTC training.
After being commissioned as a 2nd Lieutenant in the United States Air Force (USAF), he served as a Fuels Management Officer in Duluth, Minnesota. He later served as a Captain in the USAF Reserves at Kelly Air Force Base in San Antonio, Texas.
He continued his career as a Laboratory Supervisor at Celanese Technical Center and DuPont Chemical.
Steve met the love of his life, Sherry, while attending Angelo State University. They were married on St. Patrick's Day, March 17, 1979, at College Hills Baptist Church in San Angelo, Texas. Steve and Sherry were happily married for 37 years.
Steve enjoyed being outdoors - camping, fishing, hunting, star gazing, and bird watching. As an Eagle Scout, he went on to lead Cub Scout and Boy Scout troops with his sons and Girl Scout troops with his daughter and wife. As a team, Steve and Sherry taught Sunday School and volunteered at the Christian Thrift Shop at Wesley United Methodist Church. Steve loved being a devoted father to his three children, and along with his wife, Sherry, enjoyed spending time with his sons and daughter.
Visitation will be held on Thursday, December 29, 2016 from 5:00 p.m. to 9:00 p.m. at Guardian Funeral Home in Corpus Christi, Texas. Funeral services will be held the next day, December 30 th at 8:30 am at Guardian Funeral Home. Interment will follow at 10:00 am at Coastal Bend State Veterans Cemetery with Full Military Honors. A follow up reception will be held at Wesley United Methodist Church.
