Sotera Arzola Vasquez was called home to our Lord in Heaven and her beloved Simon Tovar Vasquez on January 18, 2023 with her loved ones by her side. Sotera was born April 22, 1932 to Maximo Arzola and Trinidad Gonzales in Aransas Pass. She married Simon Tovar Vasquez on August 18, 1952.

Sotera is preceded in death by her beloved husband Simon Tovar Vasquez, her parents Maximo Arzola and Trinidad Gonzales, her sisters Maria Hinojosa, Placida Rivera and Soterina Arzola, her grandchildren Jose, Angelina Vasquez, Christopher Birdshall, great granddaughter Kaelynn Grace and her Service Dog Princess.

Sotera is survived by her daughters Diane Marie Lerma, Esperansa "Hopee" Vasquez Fagundes (David) and Linda Vasquez. Grandchildren Ricardo Lerma(Julie), Stephanie Vasquez(James), Jo-lynda Leandra Vasquez(Leandro), Mark Fagundes(Yvette), Kim Birdshall(Bob), Great grandchildren Tyler, Tyson, Jace Ortiz, Veronica, Elizabeth Elizondo, Emily Perales(Abel), Rachel Elizondo(Jose Rodriguez), Robert Birdshall(Kisena), Kira Birdshall, David and Daney Fagundes. Great Great Grandchildren Carolina " Caro" Perales, Saterino (Sam) Martinez, Jose  "Cinco" Rodriguez, Kaylee Ann Birdshall, Kennedy and Alison Birdshall , along with several Nieces, Nephews and cousins.

It is hard to put into words how much she will be missed by her family, She was a strong-willed woman, she was a fighter right up to the end. Sotera enjoyed traveling, sewing, crocheting, embroidering, making dolls, blankets and other crafts. She enjoyed her grand children, her plants, her roses and her dog Princess,. Sotera worked at PNS Hospital as Executive Housekeeper and volunteered at the Food Bank and YWCA.

The family would like to express their appreciation to Bay Area ICU nurses; Randy and Sidney, also to Doctor Aftab Mahmood and Del Cielo Hospice for their outstanding care and support.

A visitation will be held on Thursday, January 26th from 4-8pm with the Holy Rosary to be recited at 6:30pm .
