IN LOVING MEMORY OF
Shirley R.
Philbrick
February 3, 1931 – August 8, 2021
Our beloved mother, Shirley R. Philbrick, passed away peacefully at home surrounded by her five daughters; Cheryl (Malcolm) De Shields, Catherine Philbrick, Cynthia (Raymond) Ames, Claire Shores, and Carrie (Ken) Sharp, on Sunday, August 8, 2021, after a lengthy illness.
Shirley was born February 3, 1931 to Basil and Nellie (Anderson) Rounds of Lewiston, Maine. She graduated from Lewiston High School and Central Maine General Hospital School of Nursing as a Registered Nurse. While on duty one night, fate intervened when she tended to a young man with minor injuries from a car accident...her future husband and love of her life, Alfred (Al) R. Philbrick, Jr. They were soon married on August 8, 1953. The young couple raised their five girls in Castine, Maine until 1967 when they made Texas their home: first Galveston, where she worked at the Public Health Hospital, and, later Corpus Christi (1975) where she and Al volunteered at Corpus Christi International Seaman's Center on Wednesday evenings, meeting sailors from near and far. After much persuading from Al, Shirley took up golf. She claimed she was never any good at it, but she enjoyed being out on the course with Al. Shirley was a parishioner of Most Precious Blood Catholic Church.
Shirley's real passion was her family; her adoring Al and her five girls and their families. In addition to her five daughters, she is survived by 7 grandchildren and 9 great-grandchildren.
Shirley is preceded in death by her husband Alfred R. Philbrick, Jr. and grandson Brian G. Wilshusen, Jr.
And, thank you, Claire, for taking care of Mom so lovingly. You are our special earth angel and we are blessed to have one among us. Lastly, we thank the staff at Devoted Healthcare and Hospice Services, LLC for their exceptional care they gave Mom.
In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations be made to Corpus Christi International Seamen's Center, or, Catholic Charities of Corpus Christi, Inc.
A Memorial Mass will be celebrated at 10:00 a.m. Wednesday, August 18, 2021 at Most Precious Blood Catholic Church.
