Sarah Jane Lomax, 82, died at her home in Corpus Christi, Texas, on May 14, 2025, in the loving presence of her sister Lisa and her daughter Kyrah Lysiak. Sarah was born August 28, 1942, in McAllen, Texas, to Henry Clay Jack Lomax and Charlyne Shaw Lomax. In 1945, they moved to San Benito, Texas, where she attended school and was the editor of the high school newspaper.

In 1960, Sarah married Mike Eldon Scogin; they had two children, Sarah Kim (Kyrah) Scogin and Clay Lomax Scogin, initially living on the family farm near Rio Hondo and later moving into San Benito into the house her parents and grandparents had earlier occupied.

Sarah studied at Texas Southmost College while living in San Benito, then moved to Austin to complete her Bachelor's and Master's degrees in English literature. She moved to San Antonio to teach English at San Antonio College, later taking a position teaching English as a second language at the Defense Language Institute at Lackland Air Force Base (now part of Joint Base San Antonio.) She also worked as an event and wedding planner at The Gazebo in San Antonio.

Sarah returned to San Benito, briefly teaching at University Preparatory School in Harlingen, before moving to Corpus Christi in 1981 to work for the public television station KEDT as an instructional television facilitator.

Sarah is preceded in death by her parents, her husband, and grandson Michael Brandon Frank, son of Kyrah Lysiak.

Sarah is survived by her daughter Kyrah Lysiak of Austin, her son Clay Scogin of Clear Lake, and her sisters Ann Lomax Renthal of San Antonio, and Mary Melissa (Lisa) Lomax of Corpus Christi, four granddaughters, two great-grandsons and two great granddaughters, as well as by nieces and nephews and their offspring for whom she is a lovingly-remembered aunt and playmate.
