IN LOVING MEMORY OF
Sanjuana "Janie"
C. Yglesias
December 8, 1941 – January 16, 2021
Sanjuana "Janie" Chavez Yglesias, 79, of Corpus Christi, passed away Saturday January 16th, 2021, with her children by her side. She was born in Taft, Texas on December 8, 1941 to Joe Chavez and Antonia Villarreal and raised by her loving Aunt & Uncle, Jovita Villarreal & Gregorio Villarreal. She attended Carroll High School and received her LVN license from Del Mar Vocational College. She retired from Colon Rectal Associates after a 30 year career as a nurse. She was also a successful business owner and operator of Janie's Bar at the Corpus Christi Trade Center, where she could be found laughing, greeting, and chatting with so many admiring friends and customers every weekend for more than 30 years.
She is survived by her four children: Judy (Roger) Garza of Humble, TX, Jennifer Yglesias of Corpus Christi, James (Joan) Yglesias of Floresville, TX, and Joseph "Joedy" Yglesias of San Antonio, TX, and nine grandchildren: Christina (Austin), Joshua, Matthew, Noah, Victoria, Hanah (Antonio), Benjamin, Virgil, and Evan; as well as four great-grandchildren. She is also survived by her sister Maria Lazo of San Antonio, TX and brother Joel Chavez of Corpus Christi and numerous nieces & nephews. She was preceded in death by her parents and loving sister and best friend Carmen Barraza.
Janie was the loving matriarch of a large and extended family and circle of friends, many of whom she had known since childhood and nursing school. She loved hosting gatherings for her family and friends. She was immensely proud of all her children and grandchildren and loved to travel to see them or to visit other parts of the country and world with them often accompanied by her sister Carmen. She was a devout Catholic, successful businesswoman, & skilled nurse with a quick wit, wonderful laugh, and generous heart.
We would love to thank the doctors and nurses of Christus Spohn who took such great care of our mother.
Public Visitation will begin at 10 a.m. Saturday, January 23, 2021 at Guardian Funeral Home; with a Holy Rosary to be recited at 12 noon and a Funeral Mass celebrated at 12:30 p.m. both at Most Precious Blood Catholic Church; burial to follow at Memory Gardens Cemetery at 2 p.m.
