Obituary

Sandra Solis Gonzalez Martinez, 72, passed away peacefully at her home in Corpus Christi, Texas on July 26, 2025 surrounded by her loving family after a long battle with Alzheimer's disease.  A beloved wife, mother, grandmother, and sister, Sandra will always be remembered for her quiet and gentle nature, her deep love of family, and her skill with a crochet needle – able to transform simple thread into fantastic works of art.

Sandra was the oldest child born to Nemesio Mendoza Gonzalez and Virginia Solis Gonzalez in Alice, Texas on August 30, 1952.  She grew up in Corpus Christi with her siblings Eddie, Larry, Brenda, Nancy, and Joyce. She mastered the art of needlework at an early age and enjoyed making quilts, doilies, and other handmade gifts for her family and friends later in life.

Shortly after graduating from Moody High School in 1971, Sandra met her husband of 50 years, Efrain L. Martinez, at the Del Mar College Student Union Building. They were married on January 9, 1975 and later welcomed two sons, Efrain and Estevan, and a daughter, Zaneta.

She worked at the Corpus Christi Army Depot as an aircraft mechanic for 33 years before retiring. Her dedicated service to CCAD ensured that military helicopters were operational.

Sandra is best remembered for her gentle, unassuming presence, her radiant but shy smile, and her love of music, pineapple empanadas, and sour pickles.  She was the world's best maker of potato salad. She was an avid reader who reveled in researching her family's genealogy. Sandra was also a science fiction enthusiast and enjoyed murder mysteries. Although Sandra is no longer with us, her beautiful singing voice will always be cherished by those close to her.

Sandra is survived by her loving husband, Efrain L. Martinez; three children: Efrain (Sierra) Martinez of Corpus Christi, Texas, Zaneta (Travis) McCoy of San Antonio, Texas, and Estevan Martinez of Corpus Christi, Texas; four grandchildren: Arianna Diamond Martinez, Efrain James Martinez, August Harrison McCoy, and Josephine Hope McCoy; her siblings; and many nieces, nephews, and cousins. She is preceded in death by her loving and dedicated parents, Nemesio and Virginia Gonzalez.

May Sandra rest in eternal peace and may her spirit continue to shine brightly in the lives of her beloved family and those she touched.
