Obituary

We come together to celebrate the life and cherish the memories of Ruben Zapata Jr. A beacon of commitment and care within his community, whose journey on earth came to a too soon conclusion with more than our hearts can hold, on September 27, 2025, in his hometown of Corpus Christi, Texas. Born to proud parents Ruben Zapata Sr. and Diana Serrato on May 22, 2000, Ruben Jr. grew into a distinguished young man widely recognized for his passion for law enforcement and steadfast resolve to serve the community he held so dear. Ruben was affectionately known as "Monkey" by his family; a name that will always make his sister smile thinking how she gave him that name.

Ruben's academic accomplishments set a solid foundation for his aspirations, with his graduation from Richard King High School in 2019 marking the beginning of his professional journey. From his teenage years, Ruben exhibited an unwavering dedication to his faith as an active member of Our Lady of Perpetual Help, where his service as an usher reflected his lifelong commitment to helping others.

The aspiration to protect and serve guided Ruben through his early adulthood, as he embraced the role of a security guard with pride and a keen sense of duty. Ruben's ultimate dream was to adorn a police officer's uniform, dedicated to upholding the law and ensuring the safety of those around him.

Ruben's love for his family shone through his every action and interaction. He leaves cherished memories behind to his father, Ruben Zapata Sr.; mother, Diana Serrato (and spouse Henry); beloved grandmother, Maria Carrion, and his siblings, Jennifer Carrion and Albert Serrato. Ruben was an adoring uncle to his nephews Christian and Caidan Lozano, with whom he reveled in fun-filled pickups from school and shared joyous moments. His extended family circle included his dear uncles Trinidad (and wife Jeannie) Carrion Jr., Alfredo (and wife Norma) Zapata Jr., and Abel (and wife Diana) Zapata; aunt Belma (and husband David) Baca, and the myriad of cousins who enriched his life with love.

Ruben's interests painted the portrait of a spirited individual with a zest for simple pleasures in life. An avid collector of scanners and a dedicated gamer on his Xbox, he found solace and joy in the hum of electronics and the thrill of play. His presence would light up family gatherings at La Playa, his favorite restaurant, grounding countless birthday celebrations in joy. Ruben cherished the heartwarming breakfasts at his mother's house, where playing with her dogs was a routine that brought made his day.

In Ruben's 25 years, he touched many lives with his dedication, warmth, and infectious enthusiasm. Though those who knew him will miss his physical presence, his spirit will live on in the hearts of his family and so many friends.

Today, we say a heartfelt goodbye to a beloved son, caring brother, doting uncle, and a friend. Ruben Zapata Jr.'s legacy is one of dedication, love, and the enduring pursuit of one's passions—principles that will remain as beacons of his enduring spirit.
