Romaldo "Mando" Alvarez, born February 7, 1930, to Trinidad Alvarez and Basilia Castello in Caldwell County, Texas, entered eternal rest at 95 years young surrounded by his daughter, Gloria, granddaughter, Corazon son in law, Joe and loved ones.
He is preceded in death by his parents, his beloved wife of 47 years, Lydia Alvarez, his son Ricky Alvarez, and several siblings.
Mando is survived by his children: Gloria (Joe) Rodriguez, Jesse (Nora) Ortiz, Mary Hernandez, step-daughter: Dora Cano and step-son: Johnny (Gina) Rojas, Raymond Alvarez, Johnny Alvarez, Olivia Rodriguez, Mary Alice Guzmán, Basilia Alvarez, and Diana Reyes.
He was a cherished "Popo" to many grandchildren, including Corazon Alvarez, Jessica Ortiz, JD Ortiz, Gilbert Ortiz, Lori Nerios Aguirre, Richard Garcia, Johnny Rey Rojas, Vicente Miguel Rojas, Erika Renee Rojas, Sandra Cauley, Tony Cano Jr and his inherited grandchildren: Johnny Rodriguez, Anthony Rodriguez, Mario Rodriguez, Gabriel Rodriguez and Albert (Savanah) Salinas.
He was also known as grandpa to Daniel Alvarez, David Alvarez, Ricky Alvarez, Gabriela Alvarez, Victor Reyes, and numerous others who loved him deeply.
He is also survived by his sisters Maggie Salinas, Maria Ybarra, and Genoveva Sarmiento, along with many nieces, nephews, and friends.
Mando was a dedicated maintenance man and a proud bar/cantina owner throughout his life. He found joy in music and never missed a chance to dance the guapango with his beloved Lydia.
He was a loyal fan of the Houston Texans and Houston Astros, and most of all, he was a loving father and an amazing Popo.
Donations for his services would be greatly appreciated and may be made in his name at Guardian Funeral Home.
Viewing services will be held Monday, December 8, 2025 from 4:00–6:00 p.m. Respectfully, we will not have a rosary service. He will be cremated following the services.
May his memory be a blessing to all who knew and loved him.
