Obituary

Roberto Zapata, age 64, passed away on March 28, 2024, surrounded by his family. He was a wonderful father, husband, and grandfather who filled our lives with joy and laughter.

Robert enjoyed cooking delicious BBQ, playing pool, and shouting "come on coach" for his favorite team, the Dallas Cowboys. He also found delight in dancing to Tejano music and spending time outdoors during the summertime. Whether it was a trip to the beach or a day at the ranch in Orange Grove, he cherished these moments, often lighting a fire and reminding us to "take it easy" and enjoy life.

After graduating from Bishop High School in 1978, Robert served his country in the Army for a dedicated four-year term from 1978 to 1982. He continued his education at Del Mar College and graduated with his Associates in Registered Nursing in 1989.

Throughout his career, starting at Christus Spohn Memorial in 1981 and retiring from Christus Spohn Shoreline in 2021, Robert dedicated himself to helping others. He took great pride in offering assistance, sharing his expertise, and showing compassion generously.

He was preceded in death by his beloved mother, Carmen Zapata, father Juan Zapata, and three brothers: Rene, Zenon, and Juan Zapata.

Robert is survived by his devoted wife of 32 years, Marisa Zapata, and their children: Karen Zapata-Erebia (Manuel), Robert Zapata (Gabriela), Matthew Zapata (Kesia), John David Zapata (Chelsea), and Veronica Zapata (Marc). He leaves behind a cherished legacy in his seven grandchildren: Monika Zapata, Abrie Erebia, Elyssa Erebia, Emma Erebia, Zayden Zapata, Valentina Zapata, and Ximena Zapata. Robert held a special place in his heart for his nephew, Michael Zapata, whom he loved dearly. He is also survived by his sister, Angie Zapata, and brothers Gilbert Zapata, Jose Zapata, Luis Zapata, and Ricardo Zapata, along with numerous nieces and nephews.

The memory of our dad will forever be treasured by all who knew him. His legacy of love, kindness, and service will continue to inspire and uplift those whose lives he touched. We will miss our dad so much but our comfort is that we are assured that he is now resting in eternal peace.
