Obituary

Robert Charles Phillips, 69, of Portland, Texas passed away on August 19, 2014 after bravely fighting a long and difficult battle with a terminal illness. Robert was born October 17, 1944 in Sabetha, Kansas to Ralph Robert Phillips and Leda Maxine Darby Phillips.

He was a graduate of Galena Park High School, Houston, Texas. After his high school graduation, Robert enlisted in the U.S. Army and received training to be a medic at Fort Sam Houston. He was later stationed at the 34th General USAHospital in Orleans, France. Upon returning stateside, Robert attended Texas A&M, College Station, where he received a B.S. in Entomology in 1970. He then attended the University of Texas in Austin, where he received his B.S. in Pharmacy in 1975.

Robert was a registered pharmacist who practiced for 38 years in both Texas and Colorado. He worked in retail pharmacies in Austin, Corpus Christi, Aransas Pass, and Temple, Texas. He then moved to Denver and worked 20 years for Safeway pharmacies. He returned to Texas in 2007 where he worked for Taft Pharmacy in Taft. Robert was a Pharmacy Preceptor, training other pharmacists for many years.

Robert was an avid hunter and outdoorsman. He was a devoted and loving husband, father, and friend who will be dearly missed.

He is preceded in death by a daughter, Melissa Phillips, a son, Bradford Phillips, his parents, and a sister, Nancy Phillips.

Robert is survived by his wife of 43 years, Jane Phillips, and a daughter, Laura Phillips, also from Portland, Texas.

Memorial service will be held at Monday, August 25, at 1pm, at Providence Reformed Episcopal Church, Corpus Christi, Texas.

Burial will be held Tuesday, August 26, at 1pm, at Fort Sam Houston National Cemetery, San Antonio, Texas.

The Reverend Benjamin Bernier will officiate at both services.
