Robert M
Johnson
May 13, 1954 — Jul 5, 2026
Corpus Christi
Robert M. Johnson, age 72, of Flour Bluff, Texas, passed away in Corpus Christi, Texas, on Sunday, July 5, 2026. He was a Christian man whose life was marked by kindness, humor, and an adventurous spirit, and he was led hand in hand by his Lord and Savior to his eternal home, complete and whole again and free from the pain and suffering of dementia and Alzheimer’s. Robert was born on May 13, 1954, in Kingsville, Texas, to proud parents George Van Johnson and Babe Kyncade Custer Johnson. He grew up with the values of hard work, loyalty, and family, and those qualities remained with him throughout his life. He carried himself with a steady presence and a warm personality that made others feel welcome in his company.
Robert spent much of his working life as a pipe fitter welder, building a career that took him from pipelines and refineries locally to eventually, with Liz, jobs coast to coast and everywhere in between. He took pride in his work and often told others that he and Liz were seeing new places, meeting new people, and building America. He approached his trade with dedication and skill, and he earned the respect of those who worked beside him. His work ethic was matched by his appreciation for the life it helped provide for his family. With the arrival of his first grandchild, Robert and Liz made the decision to move back home, where he became affectionately known as Pawpaw. That title became one of the dearest parts of his life. He loved teasing and aggravating the grandchildren with his playful goofiness, and he found great joy in being surrounded by the younger generations of his family. His presence brought laughter, comfort, and a sense of fun that will be deeply missed. Robert loved saltwater fishing, hunting, and watching local Saturday night dirt track racing. He appreciated time outdoors and the excitement of a good day spent doing what he loved. Whether he was sharing stories, enjoying family gatherings, or spending time with friends, Robert had a way of making memories that lasted. If you knew him, you had a memory of him.
Robert is preceded in death by his parents and one sister, Marcia Thurmond.
Robert is survived by his loving wife of 37 years, Liz Miller Johnson; three children, Robert L. Johnson (Rachel), Cory K. Johnson (Shannon), and Jennifer Johnson Spencer; stepsons, Chuck Perry (Christina), Tem Perry (Paula), Rodney Lucy; thirteen grandchildren, eighteen great-grandchildren, one great-great-grandchild, and many beloved nieces and nephews. He also leaves behind a wide circle of family and friends who will cherish his memory and the many ways he enriched their lives. Robert will be remembered as a blessing and as a man who was grateful for his blessings. His life was one of hard work, devotion, laughter, and faith, and his memory will continue to bring comfort to those who loved him.
