IN LOVING MEMORY OF
Richard Wiley
Mayden
August 10, 1945 – December 9, 2023
Richard Wiley Mayden passed away on December 9, 2023 at the age of 78 in Corpus Christi, Texas. Rick was born on August 10, 1945 in Des Moines, Iowa to B. Wiley Mayden and Mary Rose Cooney.
Rick moved down to the Texas coast when he was 12 years old and loved being by the water. He successfully ran his business Tape Town Electronics for 36 years, and between water skiing, snow skiing, traveling all over the country, and spending time with his girls, he always lived life to the fullest. Rick loved the UT Longhorns, a great glass of wine, being out on the boat, and anything "double meat and cheese." Most of all, though, Rick loved the Lord, and cared the most about growing in grace and spreading the news of the grace blessing of the Lord Jesus Christ, who died on the cross for us. He spent hours of each day sitting in the backyard, watching the dogs play and studying scripture. He knew that the greatest comfort we can have is knowing that by simply believing in that redemptive act of our Savior, we can have eternal life. John 3:16 says, "For God so loved the world, that He gave His only Son, so that everyone who believes in Him will not perish, but have eternal life."
Rick is preceded in death by his parents, Mary Rose and Wiley Mayden, and his sister, Pam Whelchel. Rick is survived and will be dearly missed by his wife Maria Mayden; three daughters, Reneé Mayden, Michelle Chapa, and Melinda Compton; his son-in-law Taylor Compton; and one granddaughter, "his girl," Remington Chapa. These family members, and many more family and friends, will continue to keep his memory alive.
A Visitation will be held on Friday, December 22nd from 10 a.m. to 12 p.m. at Guardian Funeral Home Chapel . The Celebration of Life will begin at 12 p.m. If you will be attending the celebration, please come dressed comfortably and casually. We would love to see you come dressed in something that reminds you of Rick (Cowboys, UT Longhorns, or Astros gear are a few ideas that come to mind). We also invite you to share with us your favorite stories of Rick during visitation hours, if you wish.
Romans 8:18 says, "I consider that our present sufferings are not worth comparing with the glory that will be revealed in us." Rick is reveling in that glory now, face to face with his Savior.
