Obituary
He was preceded in death by his parents, Reymundo Vela, Sr. and Amanda Ramirez Vela.
Reymundo was a loving husband, father, grandfather, and brother.
He enjoyed any opportunity to take his family on vacations. He was everyone's "Popo" "Grandpa". He graduated in 1970 from Zapata High School. He continued his education graduating from Del Mar College and pursued the art of welding. He had a passion for fishing and a love for the sport of hunting. Throughout his career he was employed with Coast Iron Works, Floco Company, and American Oil Field Services. Reymundo was a man of great faith, being a member of Saints Cyril and Methodius Catholic Church.
He leaves behind, to cherish his memories, his loving wife Genevive "Janie" Vela, his children: Reymundo Vela III, Jennifer Vela (Jesse), Frances Vela, Adam Roy Vela; grandchildren: Nicolas Andrew Vela, Brianna Ybarra, Jeneva Lopez. "Lucky" Vela, Shelby Gonzalez, Alex Salinas; siblings: Amanda Salinas (Roberto Salinas, Jr.) of Falcon, Texas; numerous sister-in-laws, brother-in-laws, nieces, nephews and cousins.
Public Visitation will be held from 5 p.m. to 9 p.m. Wednesday, August 22, at Guardian Funeral Home with a Holy Rosary to be recited at 7 p.m. that evening. A Funeral Mass will be celebrated at 1 p.m. Thursday, August 23, at Saints Cyril and Methodius Catholic Church SPID/Kostoryz Rd. Burial will follow in Memory Gardens Cemetery 8200 Old Brownsville Rd.
Serving as pallbearers will be Pete Gonzalez, Sr., Pete Vega, Sergio Ramirez, Ramiro Castellano, Melecio Salinas, Jr., Jose Salinas, Roberto Salinas, III., and Jose Antonio Salinas
