IN LOVING MEMORY OF
Raymond "Ray"
Lamar Netti
April 9, 1957 – August 14, 2023
Raymond "Ray" Lamar Netti, 66, of Rockport, Texas, a proud husband, father, and veteran of the United States Navy, passed away on Monday, August 14, 2023.
The son of Joan Yvonne Ussery and Bill Beauchat, Ray was born on Tuesday, April 9, 1957 in Victoria, Texas. He grew up in Victoria and graduated from Victoria High School.
At the age of 19, Ray enlisted in the United States Navy. He valued this service and was a proud patriot. He served aboard the USS Horne, CG-30, maintaining and operating the missile system. At the end of service he had attained the rank of 2nd Class Petty Class Officer. While on a good-will cruise through the South Pacific, The ship docked in Tahiti and Ray and shipmate Rosenberg were enjoying the ocean and beach when they heard the cry of a mother for help for her young son, who was struggling in the water, drowning. When they got to the boy he was not breathing. Ray held the boy and Rosenberg administered mouth-to-mouth. The boy's mother drove the car while they took the boy to the nearest hospital, swiftly. The young boy was revived and all is well. The young boy was the child of a French Navy Petty Officer, and he and his entire ship were very grateful and showed their appreciation freely. The USN decided that the US Petty Officers should receive the Navy Commendation Medal. The US sailors didn't think it was anything heroic, just doing what should be done. The USN was very proud.
Ray and Madolyn were married in 1978, and they had their daughter, Katharine. Ray cherished his time as an amazingly proud husband and father. He was an avid Trekkie, which began in the 1960's with the original series, all the way through all of the movies.
Raymond was predeceased in life by his Mother, brother Vernon, nephew Dustin, sister Elizabeth, and both grandparents. He is survived by his wife, daughter, sister Mitzi, brothers Wendell and Darrel, and many cousins, all of whom he loved dearly.
A brief service will be at the Veterans' Cemetery in Corpus Christi on the 7th day of September 2023, at 10 o'clock a.m. If sending flowers, you may have them sent to the cemetery directly from the florist.
