Larry "Bird" Rodriguez, 54, of Corpus Christi, Texas, surrounded by his beloved family, went home to be with our Lord on December 29, 2017. The youngest of four children, he was born on October 31, 1963 to Guadalupe and Josefina Rodriguez. He was raised in and was a respected member of the Molina community where he used his talent, his love for barbequing and fellowship to help raise money for those in need. Larry was a proud graduate of West Oso High School, Class of 1981, and throughout the years kept in close contact with a special group of his classmates, the "Highlifers" who meant so much to him. He is preceded in death by his Father, Guadalupe Rodriguez and Grandmother Benita Sauceda who faithfully received him with open arms.
Larry was a loving husband of 33 years and is survived by the love of his life, his soulmate, Vicki Rodriguez. Their love for one another was like no other and together they raised two sons, Larry and Eric (Crystal) Rodriguez. They were blessed with 5 beautiful grandchildren, Christopher "CJ", Jairis, Kaitlynn, Ily, and Miilani. Younger brother to Jorge (Oris), Elsa (Juan), and Jerry (Dawn) Rodriguez, Larry truly believed that there was no bond stronger than the bond of Family. He was a kind-hearted and forever admired uncle to countless nieces, nephews, and great-nieces, and great-nephews. They will forever cherish the special times spent with him in Frio Country, on family getaways, and sitting with him at the Bird's Nest watching his favorite team play, the Dallas Cowboys.
His smile and free spirit along with an unforgettable laugh will be greatly missed. He welcomed into his home new friends and old and gave selflessly to his family, friends, and the community without ever asking for anything in return. His strong faith in God and a strong will to live was something that will never be forgotten. Larry built a legacy through sports, coaching, charity, and most of all his love for music that will live on in the hearts of all those he leaves behind. His final wishes were that those he loved lived a full life centered around their families, while making the most of and cherishing every day on this Earth.
The Rodriguez Family wishes to extend a special Thank You to Mike Richter and Dan Whiteside from Pro-Tech Mechanical Inc. We will forever be grateful for the kindness and opportunity you provided for Larry through it all, to continue working in the field he had dedicated himself to for so many years. Thank you to the members of the Motown Smokers, Up In Smoke, and the countless other cooking teams and friends who were there for him till the very end. His own competitive cooking team, Smokin' Rods, which he began with his two sons, members of the Rodriguez Family, and a few close friends, will carry on his tradition of helping those in need.
