Rachel 'Rhea' Donnell Rawlings, Corpus Christi, Texas
Rhea Rawlings, Mom, Granny, and Great-Gran went to be with our Lord on November 20, 2013 at the age of 99. She was born in Kenedy, Texas on November 12, 1914. Rhea is preceded in death by her husband, Charles Joseph Rawlings, her parents, Tom Allen Donnell and Bertha Mae Donnell, five sisters and one brother.
She is survived by her daughter, Gloria Hicks, her son-in-law Ed Hicks, and her son, Charles Rawlings of Colorado Springs, Colorado. Her Granddaughter Debbie Hicks Layton (Matt Layton), and Grandson Charlie Hicks (Susan Hicks). Three Great-grandchildren, Hannah Hicks of Los Angeles, CA., and Hicks and Wills Layton of Corpus Christi. Rhea is also survived by a sister Jewel Valda McAfee of Houston, Texas and many nieces and nephews.
The family wishes to thank her special friends, Gaylord and Sue Hoyt, and caregivers, Rosemary, Josie, Belinda, Erica, Minga, Olivia, Pat, Flora, Pam, and her Doctor, Mike Neff, M.D.
She will be lovingly remembered for her funny stories, her love of good food, travel, shopping, her Golden Retrievers, rose gardening, but mostly for love of her family, especially her Great-grandchildren. Rhea sold real estate for 35 years and retired at the age of 85. She attended Yorktown Baptist Church before her illness.
She was an inspiration to all who knew her and will be missed more than words can say.
A private, family memorial service will be held. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to Gloria Hicks Elementary School in honor of Rhea's life.
