Obituary

Philip Cantu, 50 , went to be with our lord and savior on December 12, 2018, after a long fought battle with cancer.
He was born in Beeville, Texas on August 1, 1968, but later resided in Corpus Christi, Texas.
Philip had many passions in life, but nothing could top being at a Spurs game with his son and grandson, any day spent there, with them, his heart was happy. He was an avid fan of the Houston Oilers; even when the team left Texas! Sunday nights were never complete without the Tennessee Titans on the TV, his delicious barbecue on the grill, and lots of die hard shouting! The neighbors were most likely not fans of these days, as their homes would become filed with smoke! We believe Philip did this on purpose! All in all he desired to do good and to help those that he could. As one of his last acts of faith on earth, he would light a candle to Our Blessed Mother's image, the Virgen of Guadalupe, a sign of him giving his life to her; we do not think it was a coincidence that he was called home on her Feast Day. Philip dedicated his life to his family. He taught his children to have faith in God, to be devoted to family, to be strong, loyal, respectful to others, and independent. He expressed every day of his life that one of his greatest joys were his children and grandchildren; they brought him so much pride and happiness. The legacy of Philip's kind spirit, passion for sports, love of knowledge, and zest for life will live on through his loving family and friends.
Philip was preceded in death by his mother Jenna Farais; brother Michael Cantu; daughter Layla Cantu; close friends: Andy and Juan.
He leaves behind, to cherish his memories, his childhood sweetheart Roxanne Sarmiento; his daughters: Evelyn Sarmiento, Taylor Cantu, Bobbie Cantu; his only son Phillip Cantu (Gladys); 3 grandchildren: Bryce Cantu, Brandon Cantu, Catalina Cantu; 3 sisters; 4 brothers in law; 3 sisters in law; numerous nieces and nephews.
Philip was a great father, uncle, and friend; he will be loved and missed by many. His family will cherish him forever.
Public Visitation will begin at 4 p.m. Saturday, December 15 at Guardian Funeral Home in Corpus Christi, with a Holy Rosary to be recited at 5 p.m.
