IN LOVING MEMORY OF
Peter M.
Lopez
March 22, 1972 – May 15, 2025
Pedro "Peter" Martinez Lopez, a man who lived his life on a high note, has taken his final curtain call on May 15, 2025, in his hometown of Corpus Christi, Texas, the same place that had the privilege of witnessing his debut on March 22, 1972. Known to most as Peter, he was the maestro of mirth, a virtuoso of the visceral laugh, and a conductor of camaraderie.
Peter graduated from Foy H. Moody High School, then went on to study music and theatre at Del Mar College, a decision that would set the stage for a lifetime of unforgettable performances and standing ovations. His career was a medley of roles, from the vocal director and actor at the Aurora Theatre to the choir director at St. Paul United Church of Christ. He taught, he sang, he acted, and through it all, he inspired.
Music wasn't just Peter's number one hobby; it was his calling. He dedicated himself to teaching people of all ages to sing and act, imparting not just the notes and the lines, but the passion and the presence that transform a performance into an experience. Peter's sarcastic and dry sense of humor was legendary, always ready with a quick comeback he kept friends and family laughing.
Though he never made the move to New York City, his heart did a Broadway shuffle every time he visited. The city's lights may have beckoned, but Peter's roots and impact were firmly planted in the Coastal Bend. He had a voice that could fill Broadway theaters, a talent that could light up Times Square, and yet, he chose to be the brightest star in the Lone Star State.
His laughter was a force of nature, a sonic boom of joy that could indeed break through doors, and probably a few hearts. The legacy he leaves behind is as grand as his voice; from the condolences pouring in, it's clear that Peter's absence will be felt like a silent auditorium after the crowd has gone.
Peter was a man who could weave a joke into a eulogy and have the angels chuckling. The question on everyone's lips, "What Would Peter Do?" will echo through every production and gathering, a testament to the indelible mark he left on all who had the privilege of sharing a scene with him.
Left behind with cherished memories is his sister, Janet Lopez (Patrick) and countless friends. Peter was a family man in more ways than one. Not only did he hold his biological family close, but he also embraced his church and theatre communities with an all-encompassing love. Pastor Dana Worsham of St. Paul United Church of Christ and Mary Chapa of the Aurora Theatre were among the many family, not to mention his best friend Hunter Smith and the countless church and theatre friends who were truly his tribe.
Through Peter's strong faith in God, he has been re-united with his parents, Arturo B. Lopez and Florence M. Lopez and his brother, Arturo "Tutti" Lopez.
As we bid adieu to Peter, let's remember that every note he taught us to sing, every line he directed us to deliver, was a part of his enduring script. To say Peter will be missed is an understatement of Shakespearean proportions. His was a life lived out loud, and as we take our collective bow in his honor, let's do so with the knowledge that Peter's encore will always be found in the hearts he touched. Curtain down, laughter lingering, Pedro "Peter" Martinez Lopez, you will always be our leading man.
