Obituary

Mr. Paul G. Alaniz, Sr., 97 years of age passed away on Friday, August 8, 2025 surrounded by his loving family at his side.  A man who dedicated his service to our country, answering the call to duty with courage and unwavering commitment, his life reflects the true meaning of service, where he stood ready to protect our freedoms, even in the face of uncertainty where he proudly and faithfully served in three military branches of service, the U.S. Air Force and U.S. Army during the Korean War and in the U.S. Navy during the Vietnam War. He was awarded several honors and medals during his time of service. Though he has left this earthly realm, his legacy of bravery and selflessness will continue to inspire us all, and may his memory remain a beacon of strength and honor. Let us remember not just his military service, but the love he shared with his family and the kindness he extended to his community. Mr. Alaniz also was employed with the Corpus Christi Army Depot for a number of years, and was a Nueces Deputy Constable and worked with Eddie Garza Security. He was a lifetime member of the Bill Roper Post #364 American Legion that he managed for several years and was a lifetime member Paul G. Alaniz, Jr., post 28 American Legion, also lifetime member of the Disabled American Veterans and the V.F.W.

He is survived by his loving wife of seventy  eight years of matrimony, Delia C. Alaniz and his children, Gloria Cantu, Sonia Alaniz, Betty Ann Arizmendi, eight grandchildren and thirty great grandchildren, nineteen great great grandchildren, and numerous nieces & nephews.

He was preceded in death by his son PFC Paul G. Alaniz Jr., parents, Francisco and Teodora C. Alaniz, one brother Juan Manuel Alaniz, four sisters, Jovita A. Palacios, Josefina  A. Gonzales, Estella A. Vera and Dora A. Vera, son - in-laws, Rene o. Cantu Sr., Roberto Arizmendi, and Robert George Southern Sr.

Public visitation will begin at 4:30 p.m. on Monday, August 25, 2025 at Guardian funeral home with a Holy rosary to be recited at 6:30 p.m. Visitation will begin at 8:30 a.m. with the funeral procession to depart at 10:30 a.m. for a Funeral Mass to be Celebrated  at 11:00 a.m. on Tuesday,, August 26, 2025 at Ss. Cyril & Methodius Catholic church 7210 SPID/Kostoryz.  Interment with full military honors will follow at the Coastal Bend State Veterans cemetery 9974 I.H. 37 North Access Rd. at 1:00 p.m.

Active Pallbearers will be Angel Cantu, Aydin Salazar, Augystin (Austin) Salazar, Manuel Fernando Flores, Hector Mauricio Lopez, Julian Lopez and Paul G. Cantu, II.  Honorary pallbearers are Paul G. Cantu, Sr., Robert George Southern, Eloy A. Salazar, Rene Cantu, Jr.
