IN LOVING MEMORY OF
Patricia Jo
Bass
December 22, 1948 – May 11, 2024
Our loving mother, Patricia Jo Bass was called up home on May 11, 2024 at the age of 75. Jo was surely greeted at the gates of Heaven by her parents John Marvin and Opal Cryer and her beloved brother, Jimmy Cryer.
Jo was born on December 22, 1948. At the young age of only 3, she came down with polio which disabled her right arm. This would prove to be no match for Jo as she had a determined strength few possess. She rarely complained and never used her disability for sympathy a day in her life.
In the 1970s oil boom, she worked as an oilfield saleswoman which resembled a real life urban cowboy kind of life. Complete with personalized Lone Star cowboy boots, Jo or Pat as they called her then, was a force to reckon with. Her beauty, wit, and generous caring heart was one of a kind and she boot scooted with the best of them on the dance floor and in sales in the oil patch.
It was while working in the oilfield that fate would have her meet a very witty Louisiana Man, Bill Bass. They married and soon after moved to Baker Louisiana Into a house on Sharon Street. It was in Baker they would raise their family of their three surviving sons Jimmy Bass (Toni), Garrett Bass (Margie Lopez), and William "Billy" Bass (Isabel Figueroa). While Bill was working on his law degree, Jo worked to help support the family and later worked as Bill's legal secretary in the law firm they owned. Baker Louisiana was her home many years until Texas called her back home.
Over the course of her career, Jo served many as a Legal secretary, a saleswoman, and also as a teacher aide for challenged students. She was Loved and respected by so many who had the chance to work with her and from her students. In retirement, Jo also helped to caretake her mother as well as numerous other elderly friends. Our JoJo had a passion for enjoying life and more so, all people. She never met a stranger and never had judgement toward anyone. She treated all she met with kindness and genuine love for humanity. She also loved the casino and the chance to win big. But who doesn't after all, and don't even get us talking about her amazing cajun cooking. Oh wee her jambalaya and etoufee were out of this world She was a great mom, sister, aunt, cousin and above all a friend to us all.
Survived by her sons, Jo is also survived by her very close sisters, Bernis Butler, Millie Gainan, and Paula Cryer, these four have remained the closest any sisters could be their whole lives. Bonded by their faith and christian upbringing they would still sing as a quartet and also gather together for fun. They also were known to hang out for an adventurous round of cocktails and dancing on occasion too.
Her legacy continues as a grandmother and great grandmother. Jojo was blessed and adored all her grandchildren, Brittany, Taila, Kylie, Dakota and Ethan, Tenna, Garrett, Jeremiah, and Mariah along with 7 greats. Jojo leaves behind numerous nieces and nephews who love her with all their heart.
JoJo would want everyone to celebrate how you knew her and live life to the fullest. Her love was Grand and enjoyed by all who had the pleasure to meet her. She will be missed and though she was a Cryer. … she would want us all to celebrate her more than cry for her.
Funeral services will be held on May 22, 2024, at Guardian Funeral Home in Corpus Christi, Texas - Viewing at 9am and Celebration of Life at 11am. In lieu of flowers, donations made to the Cystic Fibrosis Foundation or for Autism Awareness.
