IN LOVING MEMORY OF
Pablo Tijerina
Gonzales
September 23, 1936 – January 20, 2020
Pablo Tijerina Gonzales
September 23, 1936 – January 20, 2020
Our beloved Father, Pablo Tijerina Gonzales was born on September 23, 1936 in Rio Hondo, Texas to Librado Gonzales and Rita Tijerina Gonzales. His family included 3 brothers and 4 sisters. Antonino Gonzales, Librado Gonzales, Raymundo Gonzales, Christina Cavazos, Ninfa Weaver, Julia Weaver, and Anita Salazar.
Pablo was married to our beloved mother Lydia Gonzales for 61 years.
Pablo and Lydia had five children: Pablo Gonzales, Jr. (Mozella); Magdalena G. Powell (Blake), Rodolfo Gonzales (Lisa), Leandro Gonzales (Laura) and Gloria G. Valdivia (Jamie).
Pablo had 11 grandchildren and one great grandchild. Jennifer Barnard (Alan), Allyson Powell Miller (Corey), Justin Barnard, John Michael Gonzales, Reed Powell, Helen Gonzales, Alex Valdivia, Madison Powell, Ryan Jones, Zachary Valdivia, Tyra & Corri Gonzales.
In his early years, Pablo worked for Knolle Farms in Orange Grove, Texas. Then, he became a self-employed roof contractor with his brother, Librado. With only an eighth-grade education, he became a master of this trade. He could calculate the square footage of a house in his head without the use of a calculator. He eventually went to work for Nueces County, Texas where he retired.
Our father had a wonderful sense of humor and always enjoyed making people laugh with his jokes. He loved people and never met a stranger. He touched many interests in his life from training and racing horses to coaching little league baseball. He enjoyed fishing, hunting and the outdoors especially in his early years. He spent his last years doing word searches, coloring Styrofoam cups and visiting various taquerias around Corpus where he became a breakfast fixture.
Our father had a heart of gold and would give you the shirt off of his back. He loved his family dearly and missed all of his siblings who all predeceased him. He was our legend and he will forever hold a special place in our hearts.
Honorary Pallbearers: Raymundo Gonzales, Gilbert Gonzales, Librado Jose Gonzales, Justin Ryan Barnard and John Michael Gonzales.
Public visitation will begin at 5:00 p.m. Friday, January 24, 2020 at Guardian funeral home chapel with an Evening Service to be held at 7:00 p.m.
