IN LOVING MEMORY OF
Oliva Mendez
Arreola
June 3, 1933 – August 29, 2025
It is with profound sadness that we announce the passing of Oliva Arreola, who left this world peacefully on August 29, 2025, at the age of 92. Born on June 3, 1933, in Sola De Vega, Mexico.
Oliva was a beacon of love and faith throughout her life. She was the cherished daughter of Juan Arreola and Thomasa Ortiz, and she carried their values and teachings with her throughout her journey. In 1973, Oliva bravely left her homeland in search of a better future for her family, demonstrating her unwavering dedication to her loved ones. She instilled in her children and grandchildren the importance of hard work, persistence, and faith in God. Oliva often reminded her family to give their worries and prayers to the Lord, and her faith was a source of strength for everyone around her. Her family frequently turned to her for guidance in times of uncertainty, and it was through her prayers that many felt the grace of answered requests.
Oliva was a devoted member of Iglesia de Dios Alfa Y Omega for over 30 years, where she became a cornerstone of the community. Known affectionately as the church's "grandmother," she labored tirelessly in the kitchen and volunteered her time to support the ministry. Her love for her pastor and gratitude for the church was evident in every interaction, as she often noted that it was this ministry that provided her family with hope and direction.
Oliva's infectious laughter, radiant smile, and unwavering kindness brought joy to all who had the honor of knowing her.
Olivia is survived by her beloved daughter, Azalia Mirza Romero, and her children David Arreola, Gabriel Romero, and Mayra Garcia. She also leaves behind her cherished sons, Heriberto David Mendez-Arreola, Daniel Mendez Arreola, and Jose Luis Mendez-Arreola, along with their families. Heriberto's family includes grandchildren Heriberto Pabel Mendez-Aqueno, Jose Luis Mendez-Aqueno, and Roman Obed Mendez-Aqueno. Daniel's family includes grandson Benjamin Mendez-Miranda, and Jose Luis's family includes grandchildren Daniel Mendez-Miranda and Jose Luis Mendez-Miranda. Oliva was blessed with 15 great-grandchildren, among whom Rilley Rose Arreola and Noah David Arreola held a special place in her heart. She often referred to them with endearing names, showcasing the deep love she had for her family.
In her younger years, Oliva found joy swimming in the river with her cousins, a cherished memory she often shared with her family. Even in her later years, she maintained her love for swimming, demonstrating her enduring spirit and zest for life. Oliva also enjoyed word searches and watching novelas, indulging in simple pleasures that brought her happiness.
Oliva is preceded in death by both her parents and her brother, Dionisio Hernandez, whom she often spoke of with fondness and longing. She missed him dearly and yearned for the day they would be reunited in heaven.
Her legacy will forever be remembered by the countless lives she touched with her beautiful soul, immense heart, and unwavering faith. Oliva Arreola was truly a light in this world, always seeing the good in others and praying for everyone. As her family reflects on her life, they recognize that it was her example and the presence of God in their lives that shaped the loving family they are today.
Oliva's favorite verse, Psalms 103:1-2, encapsulates her life's dedication to gratitude and faith. Her family takes solace in knowing they were blessed to have such a remarkable mother, grandmother, and great-grandmother.
A funeral service will be held in her honor on September 27, 2025, at 4:00 PM at Iglesia De Dios Alpha Y Omega, located at 722 S. Port Ave, Corpus Christi, TX 78405.
In this time of mourning, her family expresses heartfelt gratitude for all the love and support extended to Oliva throughout her life. They thank friends, family, and church members who have been a source of strength as they navigate this new chapter without her. Oliva Arreola may have left this earthly realm, but her spirit and love will forever echo in the hearts of those she touched. Rest in peace, dear Oliva. Your legacy of love and faith will continue to shine brightly in the lives of your family and community.
