IN LOVING MEMORY OF
Olga Mae
(Ramirez) Pompa
May 1, 1932 – December 9, 2021
It is with a heavy heart that we announce the loss of our beautiful mother, Olga Mae (Ramirez) Pompa. On December 9th, we lost our "soft place to fall" at the age of 89. She passed away peacefully and surrounded by family. Olga was born on May 1, 1932, in Corpus Christi, Texas, to Aguilardo and Olivia Ramirez. She was proud to be an active member of her beloved Saint Joseph's Catholic Church, where she was baptized and received her holy sacraments.
She met the love of her life, Carlos Ruben (Charlie) Pompa while in high school. She attended Corpus Christi High School for one year prior to transferring to Incarnate Word Academy where she graduated. While attending different high schools, she never forgot about Charlie, knowing that he would be the man she would marry. He often described her as the most beautiful girl he had ever seen; and she was, to so many. After graduating she worked at Lichtenstein's Department Store before marrying Charlie in 1952. Together they created a home in Corpus Christi, Texas and raised their 7 children. Olga often said that her greatest source of joy was being a mother. She devoted her life to her children, always putting them before herself.
When her youngest child began school, Olga again joined the workforce as a bank teller at International Bank and Nueces National Bank, respectively. She proudly ended her career as the Credit Union Manager at the Nueces County Credit Union. The Credit Union members loved her as she worked so hard to serve them and help them in their financial needs. Her work ethic was more than admirable, leading the credit union to standards of excellence, raising her children, caring for her parents and brother into their elder age, never complaining, just doing.
Olga, along with Charlie, raised their 7 children to be strong, independent, loving, loyal siblings. She instilled the importance of spirituality, family, and education. Each Sunday, up until her death, her family gathered together for breakfast where there was great laughter, lively discussions, family agreements and disagreements, and unconditional love. She would often sit quietly, allowing everyone to give their opinion and only contributing to the conversation when everyone had their say. Her voice, though often quiet and shaky in her later life, was respected and valued all the while, her mind still so very sharp. Every day, at 3:00 p.m., she went to her little shrine she created at her home, prayed the rosary for her children, grandchildren, friends, and anyone who had asked for her prayers. She will be missed tremendously. This loss is great. She has been our compass, our navigation system for life, and we were guided well. We pray that we remember the lessons she instilled; love God, work hard, be kind, true beauty comes from within, love and care for your siblings and the least of your brethren, and so much more.
Olga's parents, husband, and sister Sylvia Adenauer, preceded Olga in death. She is survived by her brother, George Ramirez, her children, Mary Shirley (Joe) Cantu, Patricia Ann Cavazos (Israel), Charles Gerard Pompa (Dora), Linda Kay Villarreal (Juan), Shelly Marie Pompa, Sylvia Kristina (Krissy) Canales (Roy), and Daniel Aguilardo Pompa (Esmer). She had great pride in her loving grandchildren, Ray Garza, Melissa Ratkovich, Hugo Hernandez, Patrick Hernandez, Jennifer Hernandez, Lisa Pompa, Charles Pompa, Jason Pompa, Justin Pompa, Carlos Villarreal, Ryan Guthrie, Kenneth Guthrie, Christopher Joseph (C. J.) Guthrie, Shelby Marie Guthrie, Kelsey Canales, Kaylee Canales, Javier Ramirez, and Danielle Pompa, and 18 great grandchildren. Olga often referred to her grandchildren and great grandchildren as her "dividends." She said they were the result of her and our father's great investment in raising their children.
Everyone cherished Olga! She was a remarkable woman and we were blessed to have her in our life. Her love for us is what will sustain us as we carry on without her. Our hearts are broken but we find comfort in knowing she was OUR mom.
