Obdulia L. "Lulu" Hower, 87, passed away on January 4, 2022 in Corpus Christi, Texas.
She was born on February 17, 1934 in Matamoros Mexico to Jose G. Lopez and Ana Maria Padron Gonzalez-Doria. She left her family in Mexico at the age of 14 to attend school in Texas, not knowing any English at the time. She went on to graduate from Taft High School as the school valedictorian. She furthered her education by obtaining first an Associates Degree in Arts from Del Mar College in 1958 along with a Certificate in Music. In 1960 she received a Masters Degree in Music from University of Corpus Christi, in 1963 she received a Masters Degree in Science from Texas A&I University in Kingsville,and then in 1979 she received another Masters Degree in Science from Corpus Christi State University. She taught elementary education for 35 years with the Corpus Christi Independent School District.
She is preceded in death by both her parents, and her husband of 34 years, Ronald Bruce Hower as well as her brothers Dr. Abelardo Lopez Padron, Jose Lopez Padron, Manuel Lopez Padron, sisters Oralia Lopez Padron de Martinez, Alicia Lopez Padron de Reyes, and Ofelia Lopez Padron de Sibaja. She leaves behind her son, Ronnie (Terri) Hower of Corpus Christi, Texas; daughter, Bonnie (Gary) Jackson of Corpus Christi, Tx; sisters, Olga Lopez Padron de Arellano of Bryan, Tx; and Ana Maria Lopez Padron, 5 grandchildren, 9 great grandchildren, and numerous nieces and nephews.
A Celebration of Life will be held at a later date. In lieu of flowers, we ask that all who wish to honor the memory of Lulu to please make donations to the Texas Music Teachers Association, www.tmta.org.
The family would like to express their appreciation to Del Cielo Home Health and Guardian Funeral Home of Corpus Christi. A special thank you to Linda Carpenter for the love, care and kindness she gave to our mother.
