Obituary
Noel Jean Westerkom 71 years old, mother, grandmother, great grandmother, wife, friend and coach passed away Friday morning, August 3, 2018, surrounded by her loving family after courageously battling illness.
Noel was born on February 26, 1947 in Jacksonville, Fla to the late Noel and Lillian Avinger.
She leaves to cherish her memory her children Andy, Patricia, Charley, Wes and her husband Walter. Her son Bill and her daughters Annette, Shannon, and Christina. Her sisters Annette, Donna, Tina, Vicki and Celeste. She also leaves to cherish her memory the absolute loves of her life…she was Nanee to AJ, Allen, Aidan, and Mabel, Allison (Jacob), Trey, Jeremy, and Jae-Alise, Chandler and Bailey, Bella and Jordan. And, she was "GG" to Monte and Addie May.
Noel had many passions in life none more than the love for her children and her children's children and especially her children's children children. She loved chasing her babies all over Texas and Florida watching them play basketball, baseball, volleyball, soccer, football, cheerleading and marching band competitions.
She also had a special place in her heart for her other kids, her other "babies" she would refer to, from her days as the Flour Bluff Athletic Department Secretary, to teaching, to running her Little Dribblers League, and her time as H.E.B. Camp Volunteer Cook/Counselor. She inspired and touched so many, many generations of Bluff Rats.
Noel was also a great American and true patriot. She was a Navy Wife and is a Navy Mom to this day. She also served with pride during her time at NAS Corpus Christi and Kingsville MWR. She ran the pools, gymnasium, fitness centers, intramural leagues and numerous special events. She always went the extra mile to make sure that every Sailor, Marine, Airman, Coast Guardsman and Soldier that came in contact with her felt special. She will truly be missed by all whose lives she touched.
In lieu of flowers, the family is requesting that donations be made to the Noel Westerkom Memorial Fund by sending checks to Flour Bluff Junior High, 2505 Waldron Road, Corpus Christi, Texas 78418. Funds will be used to send one boy and one girl to HEB camp each year who would otherwise not be able to go. She loved volunteering and spending time with the kids at camp every year.
In celebration of Noel's life and love for Elvis, the family encourages all who are able to attend services to wear some sort of Elvis attire, accessory or the color purple.
Visitation will be held Wednesday, August 8, 2018 at 11:00am to be followed by services at 12:00pm at Guardian Funeral Home & Cremation Chapel-A, 5922 Crosstown Access Rd. Corpus Christi, Texas. A post-service reception will be held at the Guardian Hall 5813 Ayers/Carolyn.
