Alfred Charles Boyd was born in Corpus Christi, TX on February 15, 1945, and died on May 20, 2026. He was proceeded in death by his parents George Elbert Boyd and Guadalupe Boyd, and his two sisters Olga Albornoz, and Evelyn Boyd.
At an early age Alfred showed an innate talent in sports, which would later help provide him an education and help form the man he became. He attended Sacred Heart private school in elementary, where he formed several bonds that continued through the time of his death.
Alfred attended Miller High School where he excelled at football and was part of the 1963 football team that played in the State finals. Al attended Henderson Junior College on a football scholarship and also played in the Junior Rosebowl in Pasadena in 1965. He moved on to University of New Mexico, then New Mexico Highlands, and finally Wichita State where he met Jimmy Johnson, who helped forge his growth as an athlete.
In between semesters Alfred would play semi-pro football in Canada, where he was offered citizenship but chose to go to Vietnam where he served two tours, and was discharged as a drill instructor. Many of his platoon mates continued to be part of his brotherhood until his passing.
Following Vietnam, Alfred returned to Texas and finished his education at Kingsville A & I. It was there where he met Yolanda Cantu, his wife of 54 years. Together they had a daughter Amanda Boyd.
He went on to receive his master’s degree in guidance and counseling and began his career as a teacher and football coach at Miller, Ray, and Moody High Schools for over a decade. He was a mentor to many of his students and players who never forgot him.
After his teaching and coaching career, Al became an investigator for the Latham and Moss law firm in Corpus Christi and worked there until he retired.
He is survived by his wife Yolanda Boyd, daughter Amanda Boyd, son Alfred Charles Boyd Jr., brothers-in-law, Gonzalo Albornoz, Jesus Cantu, sisters-in -law Iris Cantu, and Laura Templeton, and several nieces and nephews.
