IN LOVING MEMORY OF
Moises
Gutierrez
October 5, 1943 – December 4, 2025
In Loving Memory of Moises Gutierrez
With heavy hearts, we announce the passing of Moises Gutierrez on December 04, 2025, following a courageous battle with cancer. Mercifully, he is now at peace, thanks be to God.
Family and Early Life
Moises was the eldest son in a family of eight children. He was preceded in death by his parents, Candelario Gutierrez and Enriqueta (Diaz) Gutierrez, as well as his sister Belsa (Gilberto) Villarreal.
Born on October 05, 1943, in La Victoria, Texas, Moises grew up in a humble family of laborers in the Rio Grande Valley. During his early childhood, he helped his father, Candelario, raise cattle and assisted the family by working in the local fields. When the harvesting season began, Candelario would load the family into their green 1951 Chevrolet pickup truck, referring to them as "Los Trabajos," and they would follow the local harvesting seasons, migrating north as a family before always returning to "The Valley."
Education and Military Service
Moises attended a private primary Mennonite school in La Grulla, Texas, and later graduated from Rio Grande High School. Seeking a different path from agriculture, he chose to serve his country and enlisted in the United States Air Force, despite the ongoing Vietnam War. Moises served as a fireman and was stationed at Luke Air Force Base in Glendale, Arizona.
While at Luke Air Force Base, Moises met Alicia Ariaza. They fell in love and married in 1965. Soon after, they welcomed their two children, Christina and Mark.
Career and Travels
After his honorable discharge from the Air Force, Moises returned to Texas and settled in Corpus Christi. He began working for Transcontinental Gas Pipeline Company, driven by ambition and a desire to provide more for his family. Moises became a welder and, after years of dedication, became a welding inspector. His work took him across the United States, traveling extensively with his welding truck and 5th wheel through the lower 48 states.
Throughout his journeys, Moises made many lifelong friends who became an integral part of his family's life. Many of these friends have since passed, and it is comforting to imagine them together, as in the Alan Jackson song, "Pop A Top," reminiscing about lives well lived.
Personal Life and Interests
Moises truly loved life. He enjoyed sharing drinks with friends and family and cherished moments spent together, especially BBQing whenever he could. He had a friendly competitive spirit and loved playing spades, dominos, and the dice game Farkle. Family volleyball games, horseshoes, fishing, and hunting were among his favorite pastimes.
Surviving Family
Moises is survived by his beloved wife of 60 years, Alicia Gutierrez, and his two children: Christina Fulton (Oscar Fulton) of Magnolia, TX, Mark Gutierrez (Andrea Gutierrez) of Sandia, TX and Ofilia Mercado. He is also survived by his five grandchildren: Constance Fulton, Brooke Fulton, Nicholas Fulton, Gabriel Gutierrez, and Kayla Gutierrez, as well as three great-grandchildren: Adrian Gutierrez, Mathew Gutierrez, and Elilah Hernandez.
He is also remembered by his siblings: Belia (Erasmo) Cortez, Belva (Macario) Ybarra, Hector (Viola) Gutierrez, Juan Gutierrez, Romula (Rafael) Guerra, and Teresa Pena, along with numerous nieces and nephews.
Final Days and Legacy
Moises's final weeks were spent at his daughter's home, where he received compassionate and loving care, surrounded by his family. His last days were filled with visits from many siblings and relatives, which brought him great comfort. May his loved ones find peace and solace knowing that he is now at rest and free from pain.
