Modesto Rivera Flores passed away on Sunday, January 8, 2017, at the age of 73.
He is preceded in death by his adopted parents, Romanita Rivera and Casimiro Flores, half-brothers Santiago Flores, Seferino Hernandez, Valentine Hernandez, and half-sisters Emilia Cruz, Modesta Martinez, and Josefa Martinez. As a loving and devoted husband, father, and grandfather, he is survived by his wife of 51 years, Elida S. Flores and two sons, Rudy (Bianca) Flores and Edward Flores; and his three grandchildren, Candace Nicole Flores, Sofia Renae Flores and Marcus Ryan Flores. Modesto graduated from Roy Miller High School - Class of 1962, Del Mar College (1974), and Corpus Christi State University (1977).  He served honorably in the U.S. Navy (1966-1968).  Upon discharge from military service, he began his career as a Letter Carrier with the U.S. Postal Service and served until his retirement in 1999 (30 years).  Having been a successful real estate agent since 1977, he became a trusted real estate broker and opened Hacienda Realty in 2001. Family will be receiving friends on Thursday, January 12, 2017, at Guardian Funeral Home (5922 Crosstown) from 4:00 p.m.-9:00 p.m., with a Rosary to be recited at 7:00 p.m. A funeral mass will be celebrated at 12:30 p.m. on Friday, January 13, 2017, at St. Joseph Catholic Church (710 S. 19th Street).  Burial will follow at 2:00 p.m. at Coastal Bend Veterans Cemetery.
