Obituary

On Monday, November 16, 2020, Miguel (Mike) R. Zuñiga passed away at age 75 in Corpus Christi, Texas.

Mike was born on January 20, 1945 in San Antonio, Texas to Miguel G. and Lena (Rodriguez) Zuñiga. He was a graduate of Mary Carroll High School and studied at Del Mar College in Corpus Christi, Texas. He graduated with an associates degree in architecture and worked for H-E-B as a draftsman. Mike retired as an inspector for the City of Corpus Christi and worked for Nueces County, Texas.

During his lifetime, Mike had a passion for the outdoors which included hunting, fishing and gardening. He was a man of many great traits, gifts and talents which included being an artist, draftsman, contractor, and had a great knowledge for carpentry. When Mike was young, he played the trumpet in the high school band, played in the H-E-B softball league, and was part of Corpus Christi Clowns, Inc. In his free time, he enjoyed playing cards, painting, traveling, and spending time with family.

Mike was never too busy for his friends; he was known to lend a hand or offer advice at a moment's notice. He knew his way around the kitchen and grill; he was an excellent cook of many delicacies, especially game meat, tamales, and pan de polvo. Mike was also known for his quick wit and humor. He loved music and had a great love for animals, especially his dogs.

Mike was preceded in death by his sister, Catherine R. Zuñiga; his father, Miguel G. Zuñiga; and his mother, Lena R. Zuñiga. He is survived by his wife Dalia Garcia; his children, Kathryn (Edward) Herrera, Lena (Homero, Jr.) Treviño, Miguel (Amanda) Zuñiga, Baldemar (Melissa) Zuñiga, Veronica (Isaac) Rangel, Dolores (Carlos) Lamoglia, Gabriel Zuñiga, Grace (Fernando) Zuñiga; stepson, Joey (Marianne) Garcia; former spouse, Rose Mary F. Zuñiga; 24 grandchildren and 17 great-grandchildren.

Public visitation will begin at 4:00 p.m. Monday, November 23, 2020 at Guardian funeral home chapel with a Holy Rosary to be recited at 7:00 p.m. (Flowers for visitation please send to Guardian funeral home 5922 Crosstown, Corpus Christi, Texas. Funeral Mass will be celebrated at 10:00 a.m. Tuesday, November 24, 2020 at Sacred Heart Catholic church, 1009 Trail Street in Floresville, Texas 78114, burial will follow in Sacred Heart cemetery in Floresville, Texas. Services there will be under the director of Franklin Funeral Home, 830-393-0459.
