Mercedes Vallejo, the heart and "safe harbor" of her family, passed away peacefully on February 16, 2026, at the age of 88. Born on September 19, 1937, Mercedes lived a life defined by resilience, an unbreakable spirit, and a deep, quiet faith that touched everyone she met.

​ A Life of Grace and Strength

​Though she faced a difficult journey in her youth, Mercedes transformed her hardships into a foundation of strength for her children and grandchildren. She was a woman of profound beauty—both inside and out—who possessed the rare gift of viewing the world without judgment. A "godly woman" in the truest sense, Mercedes began every day in prayer, keeping a protective spiritual canopy over those she loved. To cross her path was to be changed for the better; she had a way of making every soul feel seen, heard, and deeply loved.

Her Lasting Legacy

​Mercedes fought with courage until the very end, leaving behind a sprawling, vibrant family who carry her lessons of kindness and perseverance.

​She is survived by her loving children:

•        Ruben Vallejo (wife Linda)

•        Lydia Vallejo (husband Alfred Garcia)

​Her legacy continues through the lives of her 21 grandchildren and 40 great-grandchildren, each of whom she cherished as a unique blessing. Two sisters: Andrea (Elias) Bracamonte and Lydia (Alfredo) Amaro.

A Memorial Service honoring her life will be held Wednesday, March 4, 2025 at Guardian Funeral Home located at 5922 Crosstown, Corpus Christi Texas 78417. Visitation will begin at 9:00 am with a Memorial Service at 10:00 am.
