Matilde "Tillie" Ramirez, 91 passed away peacefully in her home on Monday, July 11, 2022. She was born on March 14, 1931 to Eulalio Resendez & Virginia Rodriguez in Brownsville, Texas.
She met and fell in love with Enrique "Henry" Ramirez in Harlingen, Tx. They married and relocated to Corpus Christi in the early 1950's. Tillie and Henry were married for 53 years before his passing in 2003. They were blessed with 2 sons and 2 daughters.
As a teenager, Tillie worked as a roller skating carhop. She was always known for her stunning "coke bottle figure" - One she maintained effortlessly even after 4 kids! Some of her children's fondest memories are the stories she shared about her teenage years.
A dedicated mother, Tillie was committed to her children. On rainy days, she would prepare and deliver hot lunches to her kids at school - which they enjoyed in the backseat of the car. She was incredibly creative and "crafty". She spent hours making a large, beautifully decorated, heart-shaped box for the school valentine card drop (which was used for several years). She taught each of her children how to sew using Simplicity patterns. She tailored many band uniforms over the years. She was always the "Team Mom" for her husband Henry's Little League Baseball teams. Never afraid to get her hands dirty, she was often seen hitting ground
balls to the team during practice. Occasionally, she even acted as a "chiropractor" when Coach Henry needed his arm "popped" back into its socket during baseball practice. Tillie was truly a renaissance woman - she was a gardener, handywoman (watching her repair torn screens was impressive!), mechanic, piano teacher, counselor, unofficial financial planner, spiritual mentor and friend, and her own hairstylist cutting her own hair. She was witty, independent, strong
willed, moderately stubborn, tough, giving and loving - a woman well ahead of her time.
Above all, Tillie was a woman of faith. She was a very active Parishioner in multiple churches including Holy Cross Catholic Church where she and her husband sang in the choir. They were also involved with the yearly Jazz Festival with the choir. She had a servant's heart. She was quick to offer a helping hand to those in need. Her smile and cherubic cheeks were endearing. Her witty sense of humor was a testament to her feisty personality. Tillie's ability to stretch a dollar with a limited household budget was borderline miraculous. She was a tireless problem solver. She is already missed, but the life lessons she taught and love she inspired will forever be remembered by those that knew her and loved her. Far and away the most important legacy Tillie leaves is her unwavering faith in GOD - our Lord Jesus Christ, for through this faith, we will one day be welcomed into the kingdom of heaven.
Tillie is preceded in death by her parents, two sisters (Elvira Lopez, Maria Elena Escobar) and brother (Manuel R Escobar). She is survived by her children : Roberto (Debrina) R. Ramirez of Texarkana, Virginia (Roland) Garza of Chula Vista, CA, Eddie (Arcelia) Ramirez of Chula Vista, CA; and Patsy (John) Cavazos of Corpus Christi; She is also survived by 12 grandchildren, 18 great-grandchildren and a great, great-grandson.
