Obituary

GARCIA--Mateo Q., 68, HALL OF FAMER, PIONEER AWARD WINNER, died with his family at his side on January 9, 2015 in Corpus Christi, Texas.
"I praise you Jehovah God, Father of Heaven and Lord of the earth, and I bow to you in reverence and submission in the name of Jesus Christ our Lord and Savior Amen."
Mateo has had a very eventful life and career. He has played for such dignitaries as former Vice President of the United States Dan Quayle and former U.S. Senator Phil Gramm, as well as had the honor of contributing to hits like Selana's "Siempre Hace Frio", which won a Tejano Music Award for Song of the Year in 1997. He has definitley had his share of succes over the years. Mateo Quintanilla Garcia was born on April 1st, 1946 in Corpus Christi, Texas. It wasn't till he was around twelve years old , when his brother Humberto brought home a guitar one day, that Mateo would finally get his hands on the instrument that would define his career. He used his brother's guitar when and quickly taught himself everything he could learn. Very soon after picking up the instrument he was getting alot of compliments from fellow musicians. His talent continued to build, and in the summer of 1961 he started a group with his two brothers Humberto and Ruben called Trio Los Duqes, on January 4, 2014 Mateo Garcia was Inducted to the Tejano Roots Hall of Fame and received the Pioneer Award for Life Time Achievement on his contribtion to Tejano Music spanning 50 Years in the Music Industry. He is survived by his children Mary Villareal, Pam Garcia, Mateo Garcia III, Alejandro Garcia, Noe Garcia, Jesse Garcia, Javier Garcia. His siblings Maria Sanchez, Minnie Chavira, Beatrice Anderson, Gracie Medrano, Irma G. Sanchez, Ruben Martinez, Noe Garcia and several grandchildren and great grandchildren. Visitation will begin at 4:00 p.m., Friday, January 16, 2015 at Guardian funeral home chapel A with a Prayer service to be held at 7:00 p.m. Services will be held on Saturday, January 17, 2015 at 10:00 a.m. at Guardian funeral home followed by burial at Rose Hill Memorial Park. In lieu of flowers, please send donations to Guardian Funeral Home.
