Maria (Mary) Del Refugia Zertuche Yanez was born in Corpus Christi, Texas on January 06, 1929. Mary entered the gates of heaven on August 3, 2020 at home with family by her side.
Mary was the daughter of the late Onefre and Raquel Zertuche. She was happily married for 70 years to her husband, Gilbert V. Yanez before his passing on May 12, 2016.
Together they raised a beautiful family.
Mary's greatest accomplishment was her children that she adored and loved with all her heart. She always made sure they used their manners and respected others. Mary attended Corpus Christi High School and Presbyterian boarding school for girls, formerly known as Pres-Mex Boarding school in Taft, Texas. She worked at Driscoll Hotel in her early years as an elevator operator. Mary also dedicated 10 years of service to Driscoll Children's Hospital in the prenatal unit. She had a true passion for each child, caring them as her own. Mary was a bold woman with a strong spirit. She in turn taught her children to be strong, loyal, independent and caring. She always told her girls, "If you're going to leave the house without makeup, you better put on some lipstick."
Mary is predeceased by her parents Onefre and Raquel Zertuche. She is also predeceased by her husband Gilbert V Yanez, her son Nicanor Yanez and her only brother Arturo O. Zertuche. Mary is survived by her children Gilbert (Nancy) Yanez Jr., Judith Garza, Priscilla (Reagan) Arnold, Ricardo Yanez, Rachel (Frank) Turner, Angela (Arthur) Potter and Mario (Holly) Yanez; Rosie (Nick) Yanez, 25 grandchildren, 43 great grandchildren and numerous great-great grandchildren whom she adored.
Funeral Services will be held at Guardian Funeral Home on August 19, 2020 for immediate family only due to limited visitation. Visitation begins at nine am with rosary following. A holy mass will be held at 11:30am at St. Joseph's Catholic Church. Burial will be at Rose Hill Cemetery at one o'clock.
Pall bearers will be Gilbert Yanez Jr., Mario Yanez, Arthur Potter, Gilbert Yanez III, Nick Yanez Jr. and Steven Cadena.
