Whether it was enjoying a night of bingo with her mom or marking another holiday preparing tamales and buñuelos with her family, Mary C. Gomez was a pillar of compassion and kindness in all that she did. She was the brightest of lights in the darkest of places, greeting even a stranger with a warm smile and always going above and beyond for her family and friends. While she may not have always had much to give, she always gave all she had.

Mary lived her life acting with a servant's heart. She was the surgeon's secretary for the Neurological Clinic for many years. Strong in her faith, she was a lecturer at Corpus Christi Cathedral, sharing the word of God amongst parishioners. As a representative of the resident council at the Wooldridge Place Nursing Center, she was an active resident, doing her part to make her fellow residents feel at home and part of a community rich with culture.

She is survived by her three brothers, Ralph M. Gomez (Aurora), Andres C. Gomez, Sr. (Patricia), Rolando A. Gomez, and her sister, Rebecca M. Gomez (Pete). She loved her nieces and nephews as if they were her own. Ralph (Tony) Gomez, Marissa Palmer, Monica Hernandez, Erin Nunez, Andres C. Gomez, Jr., Margie Portie, Sara Gomez, Kelly Gomez, Victoria Ramos, Kori Gomez, Valerie Stokes, Trisha Gomez, Leticia Gomez, Selena Gonzales, Melissa Gonzales and Dominick Sepulveda will all hold her in their hearts and continue to embrace the traditions she helped instill in them. She was also blessed with 19 great nieces and nephews who were able to experience her unconditional love and support.

The family would like to thank Wooldridge Place Nursing Center and staff, the Heart Hospital at Corpus Christi Medical Center and nurse Christal for providing her with the most compassionate level of care.

She joins her parents, Rafael Andres Gomez, Otilia Meza Gomez and Raul A. Mendez, in heaven above. There is no doubt she is now enjoying a game of bingo with her loved ones who have gone before her.

Services will be held at Guardian Funeral Home on Tuesday, May 30 from 5:00 p.m. to 9:00 p.m. Holy rosary followed by Catholic liturgy will be held at 7:00 p.m.
