Mary Elizabeth (Betty) Blodgett
Betty, age 98, passed away peacefully on August 7, 2014 in Corpus Christi. She was a long time resident of Portland, Texas one of the first to have waterfront property overlooking Nueces Bay when Portland was just beginning as a community.
Betty was born in Erie PA December 28, 1916 to the late Dean Francis Branch and Mary Elizabeth Blodgett. Dean Blodgett was the head of Episcopal Cathedral of St. Paul for 32 years. Catherine Blodgett, her beloved sister is deceased.
After service in the United States Navy, Betty remained in Corpus Christi, she began working at the parish office of Church of the Good Shepherd and on to the Gulf Coast Humane Society for thirty something years. She was known as "Miss Betty" taking her mark alongside Walter Ferley on the Channel 10 television show, "Little Orphan Animals." She was an active member of the Republican party and Daughters of the American Revolution.
Betty loved her family, all animals, she was sweet, kind, determined and had a quick sense of humor, she will be missed. A prayer service will be held at the Church of the Good Shepherd Monday August 11 at 4 p.m. . Donations made be made in her memory to the Gulf Coast Humane Society or PALS
