Martin Garcia Jr., 73, of Corpus Christi passed away on Sunday, September 7, 2014.
He was born in Robstown, TX, on November 30, 1940, to the late Marcelina and Martin Garcia Sr. He also follows his brothers, Samuel Garcia, Arturo Garcia, and Ruperto Garcia.
Martin was a beloved member of the community and church. He could be seen every Saturday at Christ the King Church with a bright smile and warm greeting while ushering. He was a member of the Knights of Columbus Council 8066. His love of sports brought him to coach for the Gulf Coast Little League and umpire for the Central Park Little League, where he became the President for the park. He drove school buses for Corpus Christi, West Oso and Flour Bluff School Districts, and worked at Metro Ministries. He retired from Corpus Christi Army Depot, retired from the U.S. Air Force and was a Vietnam Veteran. He was currently employed with L3 Communications.
Martin is survived by his beloved wife of 49 years, Martha I. Garcia, of Corpus Christi, TX; and four children, Martin Garcia III, of San Antonio, TX; David A. Garcia Sr.; Michelle (Joey) Pena; and Deborah (John) Lassiter, all of Corpus Christi, TX. He is also survived by five siblings; Catalino (Jackie) Moreno Jr.; Teresa (Manuel) Moreno, both of Nashville, TN; Maria G. Moncivaez, of Indiana; Jose Garcia; and Margarita (Carlos) Munoz, both of Corpus Christi, TX. He is also survived by 11 grandchildren, 3 great-granddaughters and numerous nieces and nephews.
A viewing will be held Wednesday, September 10, 2014 at Guardian's Funeral Home at 4 p.m. with a rosary at 7 p.m. A second viewing at Guardian's will be on Thursday at 8:30 a.m. followed by a mass at 11 a.m. at Christ the King Church and the burial at Coastal Bend State Veterans Cemetery at 1 p.m.
