Martin Joseph Haibach, age 81, passed away on Wednesday, March 23 in Corpus Christi, Texas from natural causes. He was born on July 2, 1934 in Philadelphia to Martin and Anna Haibach.
Marty began his career working in Philadelphia at the Naval Shipyard and at Sun Oil Company. In 1984, Marty and Pat moved their family to Corpus Christi, where he worked at Koch Refining Co. as an inspection supervisor, participating in plant capital expansion projects and major maintenance turnaround activities. After his retirement from Koch, he worked as an independent contractor in South Texas for many years.
Marty will be remembered by all who knew him for his unwavering dedication to his work, his strong ethics, his razor sharp memory of people and projects dating back to the 1970s and beyond, and for his wry humor. He was a great storyteller, and if you worked with Marty you can bet you figured into a tale or two.
Marty is survived by his beloved wife of 50 years, Patricia, and by his five daughters and their families: Debby Griffith Foster and her husband, Mike; Catherine and husband Marcus de la fleur; Theresa; Patricia and her husband Patrick Burke, and their children Bethany and Bradley; and Ann and her husband Pete Kim, and their children Isabella and Ava. He is also survived by his beloved family in the Philadelphia area: his sister Margaret Hanna; his nephew Gary; and his niece Ann Jurkiewicz, her husband Ed, and their children Matt and Michelle. Marty was preceded in death by his parents and by his sister, Anna Cool, and her husband Glenn.
Please join us for an informal memorial gathering to be held on Saturday, April 2 from 1-3 p.m. at Guardian Hall, 5813 Ayers, Corpus Christi, TX 78415. We'll share some stories about Marty and celebrate his life.
