In Loving Memory of Martin M. Cano Jr.
With heavy hearts, we announce the passing of Martin M. Cano Jr., a beloved father, grandfather, brother, and friend. Martin departed this world on July 9, 2023, his final days on earth were at home surrounded by his family and friends. He was 85 years old. Born on December 20, 1937, in Goliad, Texas, Martin was the son of Martin B. Cano, Sr. and Anselma.
He was preceded in death by the love of his life, and wife of 47 years, Beatrice; son, Edward "Eddie"; his parents; sisters, Ester Cano, Mary Lou Robles, Gloria Cano, Janie Guerra, Sylvia Perez; and 2 infant brothers.
He is survived by his loving companion Ella Lopez; daughters, Elizabeth Ann Cano and Lucy Cano; son, Martin Cano III; grandchildren, Morgan (Nick) Montiel, Alexa Cano, Alejandro Gonzalez; great-granddaughter, Maura Montiel; sisters, Frances Perales, Margaret Tezcucano, Josie (Tony) Ventura, and Estella (Ruben) Elizalde; brothers, Walter, Ruben (Julie), Ramond, and David; and numerous nieces and nephews.
His warm smile, mischievous eyes, and infectious laughter made him the life of every gathering. A true humorist at heart, Martin had an unrivaled talent for jokes and storytelling. His quick wit and sense of humor were legendary, and he had an innate ability to lighten even the heaviest of hearts with his jokes.
Martin was a devoted follower of Jesus Christ and a man of unwavering faith. His relationship with God was the cornerstone of his life, providing him with strength and guidance. He attended Holy Family Church faithfully and was a member of the Soldados De Cristo. In addition to his love for humor and faith, Martin found great joy in woodworking. He possessed a natural talent for craftsmanship, spending countless hours in his workshop, meticulously crafting beautiful pieces of furniture. His creations were a testament to his passion and skill, and he took immense pride in gifting his family, friends, and Holy Family Church with his handcrafted treasures. Traveling through the vast expanse of the United States was another great passion of Martin's. He loved exploring the diverse landscapes and connecting with people from all walks of life.
Whether it was a road trip to majestic Big Bend National Park, a visit to historic landmarks, or simply finding hidden gems off the beaten path, Martin found great joy in discovering the beauty and wonder of his beloved country. For 38 years, Martin dedicated himself to serving the community as a valued employee of H-E-B. His hard work, dedication, and warm personality endeared him to colleagues and customers alike.
Martin approached his work with integrity and was one of the first H-E-B truck drivers to achieve one million safe miles. Martin leaves behind a legacy that will be cherished by all who had the privilege of knowing him. His memory will live on in the hearts of his children, grandchildren, friends, and the countless lives he touched throughout his journey. Although we mourn the loss of a remarkable man, we find solace in knowing that he now rests in the arms of his Lord, where his spirit will forever shine.
Rest in peace, dear Martin. Your love, humor, and faith will forever guide us, and your memory will forever be etched in our hearts. Until we meet again, may your spirit find eternal joy in the embrace of our loving Savior.
Public Visitation will begin at 5:00 p.m. on Friday, July 14, 2023 at Our Lady of Perpetual Help Catholic Church, 5830 Williams Dr, with the Holy Rosary to be recited at 7:00 p.m. that evening in the main church.
The Funeral Mass will be celebrated at 10:00 a.m. on Saturday, July 15, 2023 at Our Lady of Perpetual Help Catholic Church with the Burial to follow at Rose Hill Memorial Park.
