Obituary

Marjorie LaRue Ketcham Jones was promoted to Heaven on Sunday, March 23, 2025. Born on November 26, 1929 in India to missionary parents, this 95 year old mighty woman of God spent her entire life serving her Lord and Savior and loving her family. As a child, she grew up in an orphanage that her parents established for discarded girl babies. As a teenager, she and her younger brother, David, started a Christian group fellowship that eventually became the Assembly of God Church Kolkata. Today, AG Church Kolkata believers worship in over 18 week-end services in eight different languages and it has outreaches consisting of more than 100 schools, over 700 churches, a daily feeding program for 10,000, and a full general hospital that has treated 2.2 million people. She and her husband served for more than 45 years in the countries of Malawi, Senegal, and the Democratic Republic of Congo in Africa where she was the first woman permitted to teach men at the Bible Schools and the first woman to insist and include women in the college level Bible School courses. After retirement, she continued to teach in short-term assignments in numerous other countries around the world. She also taught and was involved in her local church until health no longer permitted it.  She loved sports and if God had not called her to be a missionary, would have pursued being the first female baseball announcer.  However, her greatest joy was her children.

Marjorie was proceeded in death by her husband of 63 years, Ernest Grant Jones, as well as her younger brother, Jimmy Ketcham, who passed away from polio as a child in India. She is survived by her brother, David Ketcham. She is also survived by her three children, Ernest Grant Jones, Jr. (Rita), Janice Jones-Hayes, and Donna Jewel Jones, six grandchildren and their spouses, 12 great grandchildren, and numerous nieces and nephews.
